Tendulkar named man of the match. Ponting gets lambasted for letting his team down. Anyone see the irony.
Lambasted? You're putting a fair old spin on the situation, Leysy.

For Aus to make 70 in the last 10 overs with 6 wickets in hand was not good enough. India ended up 9-for, so wickets were far more important in that match.

Not sure how it works LB&C. I heard Shaun Graf on the radio this morning and he indicated he would need to play as an overseas player for a season.

dont think the russian tennis player had to wait a year but CA might have different qualifying standards

India were 4-182 after 35 overs. Only adding 78 runs off there final 15.

Facts are Ponting near singlehandedly carried Australia to a more than competitive 260. No teams scored higher in the qtr's or semi's. Its been a very low scoring tournament.

It was our bowling attack & slow middle order batting that caused the defeat.

There is talk that Ajantha Mendis, the Sri Lankan spinner, may be coming to live in Melbourne.

I believe that for 12 months, he would be able to play for the Vics as an overseas player, and then from that time as a "local".

Not sure how long it would take for him to be able to play for Australia, but he would likely be the best spinner in the country upon his arrival.

Not since Kepler Wessels have we had an "import" play for Australia, so that could make things interesting....
Yep he would be put in the Australian team as soon as available. He's a bit of a wizard with the ball who hasn't had as much of a go with SL cause of Murali.

would have to be here two years ..before applying for permanent residency status

Isn't there also some general cricketing rule that you have to NOT have played for any representative team of any other country (juniors and associates included) for four years? That's how it used to be. Even 7 once I think.

I think its come down from 4 down to 2.

Anyone watching the Cup Final.

Truelly majestoc innings by Jayawardena. Great player for a long time.

From a distance guys like him & Sangakkara seem like excellent guys, would love to see them roll the Indians.

Need Sehwag early, then Sachin & Yuvraj. Games well setup but as always it wont be easy for the chasing team in a big game.

Agree with all that Leysy - Big fan of said Lankans.

Thought they were screwed with 10 overs to go but finished nicely. Sehwag gone - Get Sachin soon and they are a big show.

Yes, I have my hand up. Ponting had a poor World Cup.

Ponting got out to a good start in the QF. If it was Watson, Clarke or Haddin we would have been urging them to lift the tempo - particularly from the 40th over and especially the Power Play. The fact that D Hussey outscored a settled in batsman highlights the fact that the skipper was well out of touch. Zaheer bowled yorkers at Ponting's feet and got away with several dot balls at a critical stage. We always needed at least 270 to make it interesting...

You're bias and ignorance knows no bounds. Bloke gets a 100 in a WC qtr final and he was "well out of touch"? You know your stuff.
