The spin doctor, Terry Jenner has passed away aged only 67. He helped SK Warne out over his career. As a result, he was a great servant of Australian cricket.

RIP

Impressive comeback by TJ, after being jailed for fraud in the late 80s. Liked him as a commentator.

RIP.

Interesting decision to select McDermott, Allan Donald made it the last stages as well, he would have been my choice. Good luck Billy, you have some work to do.

Billy was good, Donald was great.
Both were superb technicians who knew their bodies and actions inside-out. From what I know of McDermott I'm a little surprised he's become a coach, but maybe he's better in charge of players than as one of the gang, which he never was. But he was a very, very good bowler. I have him ahead of Merv and Gillespie and behind only McGrath, D.K. Lillee and Bruce Reid (all players at their best), as far as Australian pace bowlers I've seen.

McDermott took 30 wickets on his first tour of England as a 19-year-old with only a broken-down Lawson and hacks like Gilbert as support, but the next few years he wasn't fit enough and spent a couple of years in the wilderness. Once he rectified that (and the selectors made him wait an extra 12 months as penance), he was one of the best fast bowlers in the world. That's why the Windies targeted him ruthlessly when he batted - because they knew he could tear through their batting lineup.

Injuries cruelled him, notably in England in 1993 and the Windies in 1995 but only Warne, McGrath and Lillee have more Test wickets for Australia. Beautiful action, late outswingers at pace... another one or two like him please. Asafp!

Not suprised I guess, but still sad to see Katich's international career looks done and dusted. Along with North, he didn't get an ACB contract.

56 Tests yielded 4188 runs at an average of 45.03. Not bad really.

A West Aussie, and a Tigers supporter. They don't come any better than that.

Became a good test batsman once he started opening. After his 2005 ashes series I thought he was finished...he kept getting sucked into the ball swinging away from him by Jones and Flintoff. A tough nut...not enough of them in the Australian team at the moment.

I think it's a good call. Best of luck Kat.

Katich had to go, so did North. Hussey & Ponting fortunate.

Out of those 4 ToO, I reckon Katich is very unlucky myself. On his form before injury, he is still one of the best openers in test cricket today. And certainly, he is much better performed for consistency than that lot over the last 18 months

Fair point. Still reckon it was the right decision to move him on, just think the broom wasn't big enough.

Yeah, its odd they can be tough on Kat but not Husseys (esp Mike) and Ricky.

Half of the Australian cricketers wouldn't know if they are coming or going.

I understand that Michael Beer didn't get a contract? Good enough to be our first choice spinner in the last 3 tests of the ashes series, but suddenly not good enough to get a contract. Looks like Kreja, Hauritz and Doherty now fighting it out. All have been on the scrapheap at some stage during the past 12 months, now suddenly each is good enough to fight it out for a spot in the test team.

How does Hilditch sleep at night?

Katich's time was up but he has a right to be miffed whilst others remain. No wonder he had a crack at the selectors.

If anything Katich should have been retained and Hussey cut.

Or Sutherland for continuing to oversee a regime with no accountability. The spin situation is beyond ridiculous.

Exactly, they should get Trevor Hohns to take over. The selection process is a total shambles.

Katich's omission has pups fingerprints all over it. has a good record kat and a real tough character, i reckon the best thing he's ever done is belt pup in melbourne
