So it doesn't matter that the bowler knows he has not legitimately dismissed the batsman when he knows it has been edged onto his pad because it is in the course of play?

Falls under the umbrella of "gamesmanship" and is more or less an accepted part of the sport. In any case, the umpire should be able to see at least as much as the bowler.

Some of these things are necessarily subjective, e.g. personally I believe "walking" is for fools.

In reality merit's got nothing to do with it LTRTR. Why do bowlers appeal for LBW even though they know the batsman has hit it?

Why do keepers appeal for caught behind when they know the batsman has not hit it?

Where is the merit in those dismissals?

Personally think it is good for the game that he was recalled but would not have bothered me too much if he was out given he should have remained in his crease until he was 100% positive it was 4 or the umpire had called lunch.

Yep, there's acceptable cheating and unacceptable cheating.

The Indians are used to playing on roads at home, they struggle in England especially with the swing/movement.

They aren't the only ones....so do our bats.

As has been pointed out, quality swing bowling exposes flaws in batsmens' techniques, and these days with the shorter forms of the game dominating, techniques are pretty ordinary.

Leysy just saw one of the most amazing catches ever taken by Angela Matthews in the Aus V Sri Lanka 20/20.

Make sure you catch the replay.

Mathews to Jayawardene you mean? Meh. Personally I don't think those kind of catches should be allowed.

Mendis was the real story. 6-16. Going to be a long tour.

Geez harsh judge.

- To run back with the flight at near full stretch
- catch it
- ground both feet before the rope.
- throw the ball back into play before going out of play.
- ensure that throw goes 20m to a teammate.

Yeah pretty meh :hihi

As for not allowing it, its been going on for 140 years. Absolutely to change the tradition of a rule, especially when it would be impossible to police.

& yes the mystery spinner had us in stitches. Marsh and tried to defend In their dismissals and only missed the ball by a foot each :o

Didn't see the game (mainly concerned with the white clothes and red ball part of the tour), but sounds like we lost it from a pretty strong position.

6-16 in a T20 game must be some kind of record???

*smile* that is some catch. How was his awareness to throw it to Jayawardene.

Yeah 6 for is the most ever in an international 20/20.

I maintain it was more arse than class. I've watched the game religiously for over 30 years and I don't recall ever seeing these catches until about a dozen years ago. Definitely not further back when the fence marked the boundary at nearly every ground. They showed Voges catch at the Gabba on The Back Page tonight. Thought that involved more skill. Still didn't approve though. Like T20 itself it's a gimmick for the ADHD generation, that's overlooked by the powers that be. Funnily enough you still don't see them in Test Matches.

Same goes for that switch hit shot that Pietersen started and Warner pulled out last night.

As for Mendis - spin, swing or seam, any consistent bowler with the slightest hint of class just seems to run through our order every time.

Agree, to even contemplate the tghrow let alone make it in the time he had shows amazing skill

If a bowler can move the ball off the straight, our batsmen are all at sea.

and then you have our bowling lineup who in the main bowl gun barrell straight and hardly deviate it at all.

Not a good mix.

Poms well on top of the ICC Indians after day 1 of the 3rd test. The number one ranking is certain to be handed over now.

And Mitchell Johnson takes 6 fa in the ODI...hoping he hasn't played his one good game for the tour...we need him to bowl like that in the test matches.

better be nice to his mum this season then :hihi

wonder if they will now finally demand selectors watch the games.

no going to a major test was unforgivable for Hilditch, and the whole Merv/no Foxtel thing was embarrassing

Argus review findings being discussed by Cricket Aust @ 2.30pm.Already Hilditch & Chappell appear casualties.

Chappell? He hasn't been there long enough.

ETA: OK I'm just reading the reports and I see why.

Also nothing on Sutherland unfortunately, IMHO his poor leadership is at the root of most of the problems. Also Nielsen.
