Bounce is critical in a bowlers makeup. Our ranks have all lacked that in recent years - Siddle, Hilfy, Harris, Johnson etc all skid the ball which limits there effectiveness.

Yep, if you do not get bounce when bowling, you'll get nothing from the ball after 10 overs. If you can get bounce, hit a good length and keep the seam upright like McGrath did throughout his career, the ball will always give you slight natural variations in movement that can get wickets.

Good to see Khawaja get a ton too. Maybe he will edge out Marsh for number 6. He's certainly a more prolific scorer. The sooner they're both in though the sooner we're building a team, not hanging onto an old one.

Disagree but we've been down this path before, you seem to have an agenda against it.

No agenda. I used to love cricket BCL grew up playing it and was pretty decent at the sport but somewhere along the line the love died.

I'd put it largely down to a few key reasons.

1) Overexposure. I believe that they play way too much of it these days and it means little. It became boring. 20/20 is horrible and just further exacerbated this.
2) Corruption in the sport. Cheating, gambling, weak administrations, political agendas. Pfftt.
3) Found other things to do/watch. Growing up it was really just footy and cricket. Still love my footy but cricket? Not so much these days it's made way for other activities.

If I hadn't been fortunate enough to have seen Shane Warne play, my interest most likely would have waned even earlier.

Exactly the way I feel about it Tooheys. I was completely addicted to it as a kid but couldn't care less now.

Warnie looks a bit weird these days
Much preferred him when he was fat and full of himself

Problem with weight loss is often the size of the head stays the same, which makes blokes like Warnie quite frankly look ridiculous.

Are you saying he's half the man he used to be Mick? ;)

I still care. Cricket needs to get its priorities sorted though. In trying to grow its market it is neglecting its constituency. There's nothing better in sport than a tight tense test match coming down to the last session with all four results still possible.

I agree spook.

I have little interest in ODIs and T20 games, unless in a marquee tournament like the World Cup. But Test Cricket still holds an interest for me.

Agree Spook. Cricket does have its issues both in Australia & globally. No question.

But a good Test match is 'the' sporting highlight for leysy.

Still love the sport, especially Test & domestic cricket that mean something as opposed to meaningless ODI & 20/20 games.

It is also the best betting medium to make a profit in the world ILO.

As an aside how many posters that don't follow the sport will come into the thread & say exactly that this summer. ;D

Always found that a little strange.

:hihi

In seriousness though, there's a difference between reading this thread (or checking the scores) and actually going to a game or sitting down to watch it on telly.

I like Test Cricket because it's the greatest contest in sport and also because it's the one thing that still seperates us from becoming Americans.

Yeah, wasnt having a dig at you & Tooheys. Just a general observation on what happens on this thread.

Reckon that's where the downturn's really hit though. Once avid fans have only enough interest in keep an eye on it rather than really get into it.

Australia have won the toss & will bat in the first test against Sri Lanka in Galle.

Team -

1 Shane Watson, 2 Phillip Hughes, 3 Ricky Ponting, 4 Michael Clarke (capt), 5 Michael Hussey, 6 Usman Khawaja, 7 Brad Haddin (wk), 8 Mitchell Johnson, 9 Ryan Harris, 10 Trent Copeland 11 Nathan Lyon.

Currently 2/36. Watson gone for 22 & Hughes suprise suprise caught behind to a short ball outside off for 12.

Ball already turning big on the 1st morning lol.

Not a good start Leysy. We need Punter to rediscover some of the old magic....
