Cricket

No agenda. I used to love cricket BCL grew up playing it and was pretty decent at the sport but somewhere along the line the love died.

I'd put it largely down to a few key reasons.

1) Overexposure. I believe that they play way too much of it these days and it means little. It became boring. 20/20 is horrible and just further exacerbated this.
2) Corruption in the sport. Cheating, gambling, weak administrations, political agendas. Pfftt.
3) Found other things to do/watch. Growing up it was really just footy and cricket. Still love my footy but cricket? Not so much these days it's made way for other activities.

If I hadn't been fortunate enough to have seen Shane Warne play, my interest most likely would have waned even earlier.

They are all valid reasons but your post suggested the sport is on the wane. I disagree. You should have noted it's on the wane with you (and Disco08). Reckon its pretty healthy at most levels although I'm strictly a test fan myself.

Not a good start Leysy. We need Punter to rediscover some of the old magic....

Yes we do. Currently 40 n/o out of 3/104.

2/76 @ lunch . Was there a delayed start as 22 overs in the session very ordinary

Yes, was delayed.

Put the mozz on Phil. Ponting out for 44.

Aus 4/112

Big test for Khawaja here coming in against the spin first up. Wont be easy.

He was. Even more disappointing.

Punter hasn't been able to convert his starts to big scores for a long time now. Been a problem for pretty much all our batsmen in recent years.

It's not just Disco & I. I know a heap of people who feel the same way who once liked cricket but are apathetic about it now.
IMO there is no way known that cricket is in the same shape in this country as it was in 10-15 years ago and it's on a slippery slope.

Do you reckon that apathy is partly to do with the way the Aussies have been traveling?

Not really. My apathy was there when we were still winning before the recent slump.
Like I said for me much of my interest was lost when Warnie chucked it in. He made watching cricket genuinely enjoyable.
Charismatic genius who had a skill most of today's robots do not.

Back to the cricket Aus are 8/251. Hussey 70*

No way known this will be a draw. Has traded as low as $1.60. :o Yum Yum. ;D

Pitch already throwing up clumps of dust, jumping & turning. Will be a minefield come days 4 on if it gets that far.

Make that 9 for.

Batted very well.

If Aus do win they will look back on his innings as the one that gave them a chance.

Yep.

Same old problems with Australia's bats today...lots of starts, no big partnerships and a mediocre score.

We will need to bowl well tomorrow

Australia's batsman have forgot how to bat time & build an innings ILO Phil.

Still, reckon that score could prove more than competitive. Think this pitch could prove a minefield, but Aus only playing one spinner...

Sri Lanka played two along with Dilshan who bowled 10 overs on first day, & from reports were seriously considering yet another...

Still we are seeing excellent competitive test cricket on a pitch where batsman have to earn runs with the match evenly poised. Great viewing.

Yep Hussey really the only one prepared to guts it out and adjust his game for the conditions and the situation.

I think we are going to see a very good test match.
