On another tangent, leysy really doesnt think Khawaja is suited to No 6.

Just doesnt have the footwork to come in first up against spin & succeed. His footwork is nice & compact, but is sometimes lazy. Cant see it working in that role on the subcontinent.

Is an opener or No 3. No Doubt at all ILO.

Would much rather him in Hughes role with a natural middle order player coming in at 6.

That is the way leysy would do it anyway. We may well burn Khawaja batting him there this series on these wickets.

Yep Hussey really the only one prepared to guts it out and adjust his game for the conditions and the situation.

again.

and hughes failed. again. I wonder if the new selection panel will bring back Katich?

I used to love cricket. Watch the Aussie guys go out and play, win or lose. I dont even bother watching them even though i have got foxtel. There seems to be many people like that nowadays. I just cant put my finger on the reason but cricket has got stale, very stale for me in the last few years.

Great start for the debutants . Copeland gets Dilshan 2nd ball and now Lyon gets Sangakarra 1st ball in test cricket .

Can only be downhill from here !

Good start by Aus with Sri Lanka 2/24

The two debutants with a wicket each with Lyon getting great Sri Lankan batsman Kumar Sangakarra 1st ball of his career. :o

Thats quite amazing...goot start by the kids. Here's hoping Mitch doesn't relieve the pressure!

BTW watching Copeland bat last night, he played a few shots that top order batsmen would be proud of.

We have a good test match on our hands....3/54 at lunch with the dangerous Sangakkara and Jayawardene back in the shed.

5/32 on debut with a wicket first ball ... has that ever been done?

I know there have been a few guys who have taken a wicket first ball, and definitely many blokes have taken a 5 fa on debut, but no idea if anyone has done both.

A great effort...hopefully this is just the start.

according to the ABC news, Lyon is the 2nd Aussie to take a wicket 1st ball.
5 wickets aint bad for his 5th first class game.

Husseys first innings knock looking like the match winning innings more & more.

Aus already have enough lead ILO. Pitch turning square & huge uneven bounce.
