Cricket

The Tas Victoria game is evenly poised going into to the final day.

Vic 362 & 190, Tas 235 & 0/23

Tasmania require 318 in the final innings to win & may need another Bailey masterclass like his 160* in the corresponding match last year when chasing down 1 run more.

Pretty intense rivalry exists between these two teams that went further with some controversy & spite again today. No love lost between them, in fair bit of bad blood.

The Tas Vic shield game looks like it will go down right to the wire. Unbelievably close games these two teams have. This is no exception.

Tas currently 6/241 requiring another 80 off 16 overs on a tough pitch.

Faulkner 43 not out the key from here.

Anyone watching ABC2 doco on the Afghani cricket teams World cup expedition?

Yeah i did interesting viewing, guys were really passionate bout their cricket.

Not a bad effort from a rag tag bunch, almost a Cool Runniings esque mooment for them to make international 20 20 status.

They are a temperamental bunch aren't they? How's the guy who got run out and yells back at the not out batsman: 'you bloody bisexual"!?

Vics won another epic between the two sides taking the final wicket with two overs to play to follow on from Tas's 2 run victory last week.

Dont think there will be two many drinks shared between the two sides at close of play to discuss the game though. ;D

Glenn Maxwell will be a player to keep an eye on in the future. I think it's a matter of time before he plays for Aust.

Settle.

Actually T20 maybe. That will be his limit.

It's ok, Brady 'Greg Dyer' Jones won't be. ;)

There is definately a reason he's 3rd string keeper. Pretty limited player. Tas really need Paine back in to bolster the batting.

Just on Jones, if you are referring to his catch spooker, whilst Hussey was completely out of line yesterday this goes well beyond just that one incident.

Definitely a potential 50 over player as well . Can bowl the Hauritz style containing offies and damaging hitter floating in the batting order . We have Doherty playing as our one day spinner now and whilst he is doing a decent job that's about all he will ever do.

But I agree he probably won't be a test player but he is very young isn't he . 22 or 23 ?

One for leysy and Tooheys to debate.

Oh Ricky, what a pity

Yeah 23 so has time.

But a massive leap of faith to suggest he can take Doherty's role as spinner. He's been winning one-day games & national titles for that matter for his state for a long time & is now transferring that to international limited overs level. He's taken more one-day domestic wickets than anyone from Tassie (or Victoria for that matter) dont forget.

Would love to see him bowled at the death for Australia rather than always through the middle overs like he is though.

If Maxwell is to ever make it that far he needs to look at playing the role guys like David Hussey did. i.e floating in at 6 or 7 for consistent quick runs & getting through 5 or so cheap overs a match.

He needs to massively improve his domestic batting average of 20 & bowling average of 40 first though.

Punter needs runs over the upcoming tests no doubt. He'd be the first to say so.

Hopefully that comes against South Africa starting tomorrow. Shapes as a ripping series on at a perfect viewing time, shame its only 2 tests.

I am not suggesting that he play now Leysey , we are talking about as a potential Australian player . At 23 he certainly has time to get better as a spinner .
