For all those saying you shouldnt walk. Under most circumstances leysy agrees.

In Hussey's case here he is perfectly entitled to & within his rights to stand his ground, leysy never said otherwise. No issue whatsoever. But if you dont take the fielders word (who is the best person to know) when he assures you he is 100% sure he caught it then you have to expect some fallout & flak from the opposition. Which is simply what happened here. Surely you guys have played enough cricket to understand that?

To go on a tangent further with JB's ascertion that he wouldnt walk even if caught waist high. (Would look quite funny still standing there as the umpire doesnt put the finger up when it is an obvious dismissal). Cricket is a bizarre sport with many idiosynchrosies that arent played to the umpires call.

Most batsman in 20/20 or one-day cricket could be out mankad by the bowler at any stage such is the margin they backup. The bowler is entitled to run them out this way. Would you do it?

When a batsman hits the ball into the non-striking batsman & it rebounds & runs are entitled to the batsman but they never take them. Would you?

Its a weird game that is not always played to the letter of the law.
I agree if the fielder swears black and blue he caught it you're going to look like a *smile* if you stand your ground, eg. Greg Chappell back in the underarm match (I think? Definitely the same series but think it was the same game).

Not allowed to Mankad now though - that's why the batsmen get a running start. Absolute rubbish but they changed the rules so it could be done. Ridiculous. Sanctioned cheating almost. As for running if it hits the other batsman, that's a grey area. Mostly it's not done to avoid any hint that your mate's deliberately helped you, ditto when hit by a throw. But then if the ball rebounded off the non-striker (out of his ground) and back to the bowler, I can't see anyone not whipping the bails off.

Jimmy Anderson is another one who can be unplayable when on song.

It's a shame the Pakistani guys are going to sit in jail for a few years because one of them (can't remember which one but he ran through the Aussies in the UK) looked very good too.

Unfortunately as you said Leysy, high quality pace bowlers are few and far between
Muhammad Amir. The kid. Most talented bowler in the world. I hope he gets back.

Just got home. We're in a bit of trouble here.

Agree. Hughes time is up.

Trying to think of a batsmen in world cricket who's succesfully taken on Steyn in the last last 4 years. Think there's only really been one. Who was it again?

Oh that's right - this guy:

Great hundred by Clarke under very tough conditions. Steyn was lethal on that pitch.
He's taking his game to another level since taking over the captaincy, despite his critics not thinking he was up to the task.
The Katich controversy seems only to have steeled his resolve.

Enjoyable days cricket to watch. Be interesting to see what the Aussie bowlers can do.

He has worked him out now along with just about every other top class test bowler. A poor technique like Hughes has will be exploited eventually at this level.

We have big problems at the top . Watson should bat at 6 , Ponting is a shadow of his former self . Marsh looks like a potential opener to me .

I get the feeling that Haddin is playing for his career this summer as well .

Great innings by Clarke. I certainly didn't think he was capable of playing a readguard like that. Had a bit of the Kim Hughes of 1981 about it.

Stood tall while all bar Marsh crashed around him. Geez Marsh is impressive.

Agree with Sin re problems at the top.

I think the big key will be Johnson when we bowl...he will either have them jumping around and cause trouble, or he will give away easy runs and let them off the hook. I expect the latter but obviously hope for the former.

Super innings by Clarke. I watched it up until Marsh's dismissal (my boy very solid) and after some early roughing-up from Steyn and a couple of flat-footed wafts Clarke was all class. Drove superbly and hooked a number of boundaries. Now has more centuries in fewer Tests than Ian Chappell or Doug Walters.

The top of the order is a worry. I think Watson is a natural number four. Marsh has the game to open but then who bats at three? Another Shield ton to Warner (three centuries in 10 first-class games at almost 60) could see him given a chance if Hughes and/or Ponting continue to struggle. Maddinson is another who could come in, and no doubt will before too long.

I love Punter, the equal of Tendulkar in my eyes, but boy he needs some runs.

Geez lucky we didn't pick Cummins - he wouldn't've done much on this wicket. ::)
Siddle will enjoy it. Harris too. And Watson loves a bit of movement/up and down. Given the Saffies lack of proper cricket the skipper has played what could be a match-winning innings. The bowlers need to do the job but there was plenty of help yesterday.

Leysy has been flabbergasted for a long time how Brad Haddin escapes scrutiny when many other far greater players have the heat applied by the media & supporters for that matter i.e. Hayden, Hussey, Ponting etc.

Is a very poor keeper who regularly bats without care or responsibility when his team needs it.

At 34 years of age it seems a no brainer to leysy for him to move on & help regenerate the side when we have a couple of younger keeper/batsman who would already surpass his worth.

Time for the blowtorch to regain focus.
