Cricket

Ah I see, Cant blame leysy for thinking your angst was towards just one player. ;)

On Paine, he is due back next week leysy believes. Wade is definately the next in line after that.

Is a very poor keeper who regularly bats without care or responsibility when his team needs it.

Yep. Hardly made a run since the first test in the ashes when he made a century. Not the rock in the middle order we need, especially with the tendancy for the team to lose wickets in clusters.

Will be happy when one of the young guys takes over from him.

As I said at the time, Paine should have remained in the team after doing so well in the Pakistan series in England. Made no sense to bring back Haddin, who is a gifted but stupid batsman, average keeper, and 34 years old.

He has worked him out now along with just about every other top class test bowler. A poor technique like Hughes has will be exploited eventually at this level.

We have big problems at the top . Watson should bat at 6 , Ponting is a shadow of his former self . Marsh looks like a potential opener to me .

I get the feeling that Haddin is playing for his career this summer as well .

He worked him out eh - what's that based on? The few overs on a helpful wicket where he also carved up Watson and everyone else or the other opening bowler eventually dismissing him with a ball that would've got Bradman out?

Ever since Hughes burst onto the scene and the South africans fed him with width outside the off stump international bowlers have cramped hims for room and made him play straight ( which he has trouble doing ) and starved him of his strength . The Poms did it and the South africans will do it . In his short stay last night he got nothing to hit and that will continue because these guys are class bowlers , especially Steyn .
He does not have the technique to open in Test Matches .
Its based on the fact that since that series in South africa Hughes has done nothing and continually gets caught behind the wicket because of his poor technique.

Exactly right ST. His outstanding eye will only get him so far.

Hughes issue is that his first movement is for his back foot to move back towards fine leg. For nearly all players the back leg to moves across to towards off.

This means that he closes himself so it makes it very hard to play to the legside.

Sth Africa had the exactly wrong idea last time they met. They thought because he moves back & away they would feed him well outside off. This is his strength & he fed on it. Have a good look at where his shots are from his 160 against Sth Af here

Nearly all from shortish balls wide well outside off. Not many of those anymore for Phil.

England gave the blueprint how to get him out. Cramp him for him because his technique wont allow him to hurt you through leg. Leysy will bet London to a brick he will continue to fail against good quality pace bowling in this area as it is quite simply inevitable because of the restrictions his technique places on him.

All out 284. Pretty good morning for the Aussies adding 70 more.

Now for our bowlers to use the conditions....

Great hundred by Clarke under very tough conditions. Steyn was lethal on that pitch.
He's taking his game to another level since taking over the captaincy, despite his critics not thinking he was up to the task.
The Katich controversy seems only to have steeled his resolve.

Enjoyable days cricket to watch. Be interesting to see what the Aussie bowlers can do.

Good to see the fire still burns a little TOO!

Spot on.

Can he change his technique or is it too late?

I think the big key will be Johnson when we bowl...he will either have them jumping around and cause trouble, or he will give away easy runs and let them off the hook. I expect the latter but obviously hope for the former.

Nice one Phil. Johnson - 2 overs 0/14 including one awful wide. Wish he could bowl one side of the wicket, a captains nightmare.

Will probably take 3 quick ones now!

He already has adjusted it for the better, nothing yesterday indicated otherrwise, including the jaffa that dismissed him - his critics are just as hysterical as they are blind. I'm confident he won't let them get to him and ruin his test career with their gross over-exaggerations like they did Bevan.

Now Johnson - there's a bloke beyond hope. Dumbest bowler to ever don the baggy green.

God he is frustrating. Wastes the new ball time and time again.

His critics won't have to do anything to ruin his Test career . He is doing a pretty good job of it himself .

When it comes to footwork near impossible to do without other side effects from leysy's coaching experience.

BTW what a knock from Clarke. Great great innings.

Havent seen us bowl yet Mrs Leysy has watched Amazing Race & is now onto a Susan Boyle special. :help

I never thought I would say this but Clarke just played a Classic Steve Waugh dig. If Steve Waugh did that we would be writing 1500 posts on how much ticker he has.
