David Warner to replace Marsh apparently.Seems the selectors learnt nothing from our 2nd innings. ::)

Problem is the cupboard is pretty bare for batsmen ATM.

Other guys next in line cant buy a run - Cowan, Finch, Bailey, Mitch Marsh, Ferguson etc are all struggling a bit so far this year. They will likely all come good but on current form Warner is playing better.

Funnily enough & for the first time since leysy can remember young fast bowling stocks dwarf the batting dept.

One thing Roebuck did nail in his next to last article was modern Aussie batsmen's poor technique against swing & seam (not just Hughes ;)) - having watched a fair bit of sheild & ryobi cup - I suggest whoever we bring in next will probably also have the same inherent flaws. An entire genration needs to be re-trained and the next one needs to be worked on now -otherwise our only hope of not being in the wilderness for a very long time is if all the other countries stuff their kids techniques with this crap 20/20 saturation. Then we might win a few more test matches , but they'll all last about as long as this last one just did.

Spot on. Mark Waugh, who is quite insightful and Brendan McArdle made the same points over the weekend.

I think it is something that became quite obvious as far back as 2005 in England, when the Poms (Flintoff, Jones and Hoggard in particular) did us with swing time and time again. I think we got away with it for so long for a couple of reasons:

1. The lack of quality swing bowlers in the world; and
2. The quality of test wickets which gave bolwers nothing.

get a good swing bowler and the odd test in favorable conditions, and our batsmen are at sea. However, most sides suffer the same fate.

The excuses Roebuck made(parroted) for serial sh!thead Singh's behavior were laughable. On top of canonising Kumble for basically being a sore loser. India & Pakistan have been a disgrace to the game for decades.

... while Hayden, Healy and McGrath were choir boys. Sadly, the colonial attitudes towards India/Pakisatan/Sril Lanka is one of the major reasons for - what we consider to be - the savage over-reaction by the sub-continent to a number of cricket-related race issues.

Wade another good knock for the Vics in making 120. I hope Hadden takes some notice of this.

Bolt's scum. Collins is scum nobody. Horribly sad, tragic stuff, and these opportunists are making statements when people who worked with the bloke for 20 years can't. In fact his closest colleagues have been at pains to say just how hard he was to know. But Collins knows him, and Bolt knows others knew. ::) You know what they say about a little knowledge... Bolt is one dangerous piece of work. Collins is insignificant. As writers Roebuck beats them by an innings and 10,000 runs.

Anyway.

What's the bet Wade doesn't get a look in because Paine is the anointed one. We'll have to put up with Haddin's crap until Paine's fit. At least that's what would happen under the old regime because they'd be scared Wade would come in and make a ton on debut and ruin their plans. If the new mob has the balls we demand of them they'll drop Haddin after this test, never to play again and pick Wade if Paine's not fit. The keeping position is not Paine's birthright, as impressive as he is on and off-field.

Completely ya first paragraph Spook.

Not with ya on the second. ;D

Why not? Haddin's had it. A suitable replacement is available. The fact that Paine is injured shouldn't matter.

Wade's really a Taswegian anyway, so why would you care? :P

Wade WAS a Taswegian, he's now a proud Victorian.

You may be right about the selectors waiting until Paine is fit and firing . I suspect that he is not just being planned as the next keeper but also as a prospective Captain of Australia . We have no natural leaders coming through .

Just stirrin.

Though the mainland is lucky that little Tasmania has produced two able keeper/batsmen with the talent to step up.

I am kind of hoping we get exposed again in this test.

I want to see the first test of the Australian summer contain a few new names to provide hope for the future. Because the future is pretty bleak with the XI we have at the minute.

Indeed. The supposed "re-build" after the Ashes disaster has been vurtually non existant. A side with so many old or underperforming players I've never seen. I'd rather see a complete cleanout.

Something like: Hughes, Warner, Khuwaja, Clarke, Marsh, Watson, Wade, Lyon, Pattinson, Cummins, Siddle 12th:Copeland

A side that may get thumped but a young side that allows us to see who is worth it and who isnt. Currently we have an aged and underperforming side that gets thumped! Understand Hughes hasnt fired but at 22 it's still too young to discard him completely. Only trouble is that there's too many bloody New south welshmen!

Yep true LD in regards to current form of batsmen "in waiting".But surely it should come down to someone who is capable of staying in for longer periods and not be phrone to Brain fade type shots that i expect Warner to be guilty of.We already Hughes for that ;D.
Agree on the Bowling stocks ATM.Well at least the pace side of things anyway.

I'm worried about the reports that Siddle will be dropped instead of Johnson.
Apart from the obvious - all out 47 so we drop a bowler. :rofl :rofl
It's good that Cummings gets a gig, but the selectors should bear in mind he's raw and likely to leak runs. Even if he's taking wickets.
So you need some old fashioned line and length at the other end to apply pressure. Which Johnson can't provide.
So if he's having yet another "off" day, then Clarke will be forced to bowl Watson for too many overs.
And that leaves us a batter down because Watto should be chipping in with half a dozen overs, not having to compensate for Johnson. If he has to bowl 20 overs then we can forget about him making a big contribution with the bat.

I hope I'm wrong and they stick with Siddle. But Johnson seems to be immune from criticism.

It gets a bit sickening hearing the camp (and ex players) still trying to talk Johnson up. "He's a class act", "he'll hit back", "he's a big softy and is very sensitive" ( a personal fav is that one!) and of course the obligatory "he's bowling well in the nets". Just drop the spud and move on!
