Has bowled well. Like seeing that seam coming out upright. A lot to work with IPPHO.
Very interesting comments by Shaun Pollock on Cummins when he said that because his bowling arm is actually angled towards the left side of his body on release he has trouble in getting the seem totally upright. It's straight but slightly angled. He said that once the bowling coaches sort that out his release will be fantastic . Compared it to Johnson and his scrambled seam. Gotta love an 18 year old consistently hitting 145km over after over .
I watched a lot of it last night and Peter Siddle was fantastic . He is not the most talented guy but he just runs in and gives everything he has. I don't know why there was talk of taking the aggression out of his game because he fires up everyone around him. I think eventually he will be overtaken by some of these younger bowlers but I am sure that Clarke loves him in the team because he gives everything whether bowling , batting or fielding.
Mitch Johnson bowled pies again .
Impressed by Lyon's G&D as well because despite getting carved at times he kept on throwing the ball up .

Watson is reported to have a strained hamstring and under the new rules, he can't get a runner. :o
He also can't open because the time spent off the field carries over into the batting.
So I hope they promote Hussey to the opening gig and leave the rest of the order as is.
Test has a long way to go and I wouldn't be putting my hard earned on the Aussies just yet.

Watson is opening Poppa , he was padded up ready to bat when the day was called off . He came back on the field early enough to allow that but didn't bowl.

What a debut by Cummins. The most exciting by an Aussie bowler since Craig McDermott. At least. He bowled beautifully. Getting Amla the way he did was the execution of a plan to an absolute tee. We have found our next great bowler ladies and germs. Touch wood his Shane Bond-like action doesn't result in a Bond-like injury curse because the kid's got it all - pace, bounce, accuracy and superb seam.

On seam position, that's the nuts of it with Johnson I reckon. It was better last night and he bowled better. Got driven, as did Siddle, but that's because they were prepared to pitch it up. Better that than back of a length wasting the new ball and a first day pitch that should be the template for test cricket: encouraged the quicks but gave the batsmen the chance to play their shots too. Big ups to the groundsman.

Johnson needs to get closer to the stumps to get that swing back into the right handers. There is no doubt he's talented, it's just his margin for error is so small.

Young Pat has a long way to go & understandably a few chinks to iron out but huge amounts to work with.

Very irresponsible batting by SA. Threw most of there wickets away. Were too over-confident against a very very modest attack.

Cummins is already a better bowler than Johnson. Probably has been since he was 15.

Siddle's another Merv. Big hearted trier who occasinally bowls above himself, but will often get taken apart when the cream is at the crease and has their eye in. Problem is Merv was a 3rd of 4th quick who rarely had to carry the attack after Border's Aussies became a force, whilst Siddle's currently a spearhead. All his wickets last night were pretty much gimmies.

I reckon with Johnson's action he will never consistently get the seam coming out straight. Coupled with the fact he is now 30, if he hasn't been able to do it by now, he never will.

Whil he bowled in better areas last night, he still leaked plenty of runs. He really is cannon fodder if he doesn't move it. Seam still looked scrambled to me last night when I saw the slow mos. Cummins however, beautiful and straight indicates good wrist position. If he keeps that and gets his arm back a bit (as Shaun Pollock said) he will be very handy. Really liked the look of the boy.

South Africa batted badly. Problem foir us has been knocking sides over twice, so I reckon they will put up more of a fight second time around. But first, our shaky batting needs to put a score on the board....

Agree on Siddle. His lack of movement both in the air & off the seam means he will always be limited on the interntional stage.

Cant question the guy though, always encouraging teammates & will run in for his captain all day.

Here is the Australia A team to play New Zealand in a 4 day tour match next week.

It is interesting as it is the first selected by the new selection committee of John Inverarity, Rod Marsh, Andy Bichel and Michael Clarke & obviously shows who they think is next in line for an Australian berth.

The ridiculous thing is there are 3 shield games during this match, whilst the national team also away. Crazy scheduling & another example of how CA dont give enough respect to the shield.

George Bailey (Captain)
David Warner (vice-captain)
Michael Beer
Tom Cooper
Ed Cowan
Ben Cutting
Ben Hilfenhaus
Mitchell Starc
Matthew Wade
Nic Maddinson
James Pattinson
Steve Smith

Isn't Tom Cooper a Dutchman, he's played one day internationals for the Netherlands, due to his mothers Dutch passport.

Nice start none for 36. If must be while since we have even opened up at 0/36 as I'm happy with this.

In days gone past I was not happy until Langer and Haydos put on a 100.
