Cricket

No-one has attended state games for 30 years. Even when cricket was flying those games didnt attract viewers.

That doesnt reflect in the amount of interest in them though.

Why play at the G for all those years?

Games at North Sydney looked good.

Need 60's from both Hussey & Haddin to go with Khawaja & Ponting's 60's to get a very tough total.

Unlikely.

I loved cricket as a kid. Have lived in Denmark for 20 years now and don't see alot. I had the rare privilege of watching both days on the weekend live via internet streaming (we are one hour behind South Africa so time difference was not a problem). I had forgotten how rivetting Test cricket can be. Seen a few one dayers and 20/20 games lately but they are just so repetitive.

Tests are great when the teams are evenly matched and the bowlers get on top and the players know that a draw is taken out of the equation (soccer has the same issue). The games where each side makes 500 over the first 3.5 days are what kills it.

The game needs to think out of the box regarding scheduling. In this day and age, I just found it ridiculous that when they are struggling with the light all the time in Jo'burg, they go off for a 40 minute break at lunch when the conditions are at their best and nine of the 22 players have got their feet up anyway! Why have these breaks? Yes the batsmen need a break but I am sure a better systen could be devised. As for the fielding side, a relaxed attitude to subs would allow the teams to play through. Let's face it, they have a 40 minute break at 1.00 pm for no other reason than that's the way it's been done for 130 years.

And if they CAN start at 10.00 because the previous day was curtailed due to bad light, why not start at 10.00 all the time?

The scoreboard makes some very good points.

The law makers havent moved with the times at all.

Apart from starting earlier, the ICC need to enforce the horrible over rates with far harsher penalties than the lettuce leaf they currently slap.

The light to which the players can go off with needs to be far darker as well, its ridiculous how it currently is.

Handy partnership this. They are going to need some luck to keep playing & missing rather than getting an edge.

Hussey the perfect man for this situation though.

Just about time to end the Haddin farce.

If he was in better form at the moment, he'd have been out about 6 times so far.

Ball constantly going past the edge of his bat

Cracks me up how many people who aren't intersted in cricket keep posting in the thread. Test cricket is alive and well.

Dying sport? Reckon it is going pretty well at most levels in Australia. Plenty of young kids still playing and dreaming of representingh their country. Plenty of interest in tonights game.

Reckon Test cricket is becoming a little like the Shield. Lots if interest in following the results and watching on Foxtel but not in attending live (obvious exceptions aside). Foxtel is great for those sort of supporters.

Why, that was absolutely plumb. Dreamin'going 'upstairs'.

I'm talking about the rule itself.

Wasn't it still 'not out' if the batsman showed intention to hit the ball but missed?

Tough call. Bowls a better wrong 'un than Warnie!

Only typed f.r.i.g.g.i.n', surprised the swear filter caught it.

Been around long enough not to have to be cautioned about running on the wicket every day. It's going beyond gamesmanship and approaching the territory of ball tampering. He's not very likeable - the Hayden Ballantyne of cricket.
