One of the unfortunate things is that this result may lead to Johnson and Haddin being retained. Hopefully the new selectors can look at results over a period of time and not 1 test but I'm not hopeful.
Agreed, we've already fallen with perservering with the likes of Hussey, Haddin, Johnson and Ponting. Please dont fall for it again. No more of them ( or Harris who is just too injury prone). Go with the youth! Look what happened with Cummins. Let's move on and get the likes of Pattinson, Starc, Copeland, Wade in the team.

Is that the same Haysman who played Shield cricket for Sth Aust in the late 70s / early 80s?

yes . Went to South Africa on a rebel tour and stayed .

Luckiest batsman I have ever seen.

Have you ever seen that footage of him being bowled in South Africa, on the rebel tour I think.

Both bails are broken and lift off the stumps, only to fall back into place, so not out.

Must be on the net somewhere.

Shame the rain delay would've prevented many from seeing the finish. They're like diamonds, those sort of Tests. Edge-of-the-seat viewing.

Yes, I remember sitting up all night in 1981 watching the famous Botham / Willis / Lillee / Marsh turn-around Test.

It was magical. Still sticks in my mind.

The other was the Border / Thomson run chase at the MCG, circa 1982 or 83.

On another note, watched a brilliant cricket DVD, Fire in Babylon.

It is the inside story of what turned the West Indies from entertaining but regular losers into the most feared cricketing teams ever.

Much of the change was above the shoulders. "Us v them", type thing.
Certainly an enlightening story.
Yeah, terrific doco.

You reckon it's doing either of those?
Yep. Unarguable it's brought more money to the sport and made it more attractive to kids who might otherwise opt for footy, eg. Keath and Buchanan. Whether it converts new fans to test cricket will take longer to play out.

Was one of 18,000 in for free on the last day.

Quit amid rumours of falling out with Graeme Smith & issues of selection under the racial quota system.

While watching the trailer to 'Fire in Babylon' found this fantastic initiative by English Cricket.

'Chance to Shine', bringing cricket back to State schools.

No danger of that here.

Vics smashing through weak Tassie batting lineup. 6/127. McKay 5-fer.

Yeah that match will be a whitewash.

As readers of the thread are aware leysy's pretty staunch in his backing of the Tasmanian team & the quality in it.

However this side is a shocker. Only 3 first choice players were available & with the depth of talent being understandably shallow given the size of the state leysy'd be suprised if Tas are even slightly competitive.

On Arthur, he would be the non-Australian to Coach wouldnt he.

He is but i also heard that we were the last International team to have a foreign coach . I am struggling to think who coached the Saffies who is foreign though. Did Robin Jackman coach them ?

Bob Woolmer (pom) coached South Africa.

Evan Gulbis - pair on first-class debut against Victoria two weeks ago and still searching for his first run after today's golden.

All three against his former state as well. Thats gotta hurt. :hihi

He looks better suited to the One-day arena.

Will need to tighten his technique up if he's to forge a first class career.

Hopefully Arthur has the respect of the players and can work well with the selection panel.

After the disasters under the Nielsen/Hilditch regime, couldn't be any worse.

Welcome aboard Mickey. Hopefully you can guide us back up the rankings like you did with South Africa.

He got off to a flyer in his limited overs career too didn't he...I seem to remember Leysy wondering how we could let him slip from our grasp! :hihi
