Bob Woolmer (pom) coached South Africa.
thanks .

Heard the President of Penrith CC talking on SEN when I was driving earlier , which is the club Cummins comes from. He only played 10 first grade games for them and was Captain of their under 16's in 2008/09 ! He said that all through his junior career he has scared the pants off his opponents because he was far quicker than anything they had ever seen . Was also a very good bat an underage level.
Usman Khawaja and John Hastings both came through their junior system .
Good nursery

Obviously they have a very large pool to draw from that gives a lot to work with, but NSW's system is very good at producing/developing good juniors.

Its amazing to think he was captaining the under 16s in 2008/09 and has just won a test match for his country.

Vics smashing through weak Tassie batting lineup. 6/127. McKay 5-fer.

Vic's looking just as weak ending the day at 3 - 18. Crucial partnership between Quinney and Hussey first up tomorrow. What an over by Tassie's Jackson Bird, triple wicket maiden!

Mickey Arthur appointed Coach of Australia.

Yes, here's the official notification.

Mickey Arthur appointed Australian cricket Head Coach

Cricket Australia has appointed former South African and current West Australian coach Mickey Arthur as Australian head coach, a role which also acts as a selector.

Mickey Arthur was South Africa’s coach from 2005-2010 and has been head coach with the Western Australian Cricket Association Retravision Warriors since 2010.

He came to coaching after a 15-year first-class playing career in South Africa that netted him 6657 first-class runs including 13 centuries, as well as 3774 one-day runs in South Africa’s home competition.

CA Chief Executive Officer James Sutherland said Arthur would be in the role in time for the first Vodafone Test versus New Zealand due to start in Brisbane on 1 December.

I'm not up with what's going on but doesn't it seem strange that we could dominate for years and now have to appoint a South African as head coach?

I reckon it's a good fit. He's had a few good, honest things to say about Australian cricket since he's been working here, has a good coaching pedigree and isn't anyones mate. Just hope he fastracks a new look team.

I wouldn't have thought so Patsy. Not sure the best coach has to necessarily come from Australia, even with our dominance in the last 15 odd years. I think it is good that they have gone outside the boys club.

good dig by punter.

Yeh, it was ok in the scheme of things. It was his highest score in over a year. He obviously worked on his recent weaknesses in this innings and knuckled down and got dirty and gritty. I don't believe it should be a reprieve though.

Great chance to blood a couple of new batsmen against the kiwi's as Watto is uncertain to play also. I'd bring in Warner to open should he fail to come up and bring in someone like Tom Cooper for Punter.

Haddin's knock was also ok, funny, it was the first time he has faced over 100 balls in an innings for over a year also, but should make way for Wade.

Johnson averaged 85 with the ball this series at over four runs an over.....see ya later mate!

What are people's thoughts on our spinner, should we persist with Lyon, thought he was servicable, although four wickets from four innings in the series is a bit below par even on Saffie pitches.

I feel Lyon is just about our only realistic option at the moment.

We need to choose someone and just stick with them. Get some experience into them.

Over the last 3-4 years we have seen a ridiculous parade of spinners through the team.

What about O'Keefe

*** thought he was doing ok, checked his stats for this season, his shield bowling form isn't that flattering, six wickets at nearly forty, doing pretty well batting wise though.

Just bagged a fourfa and smashed 82 at the Gabba in the Shield but then got injured in proceeding pyjama game. Sidelined for at least a fortnight last I heard.

He'd be in the mix, but doesn't look to have the variety in his bowling for test level. Just my observation, based on not having seen that much of him either.

Talking upcoming players, where is Alex Keith at?

Can't say I have heard about him this season. Is he injured?

No, just finding it a little bit harder making the transition from junior to senior cricket.

Plenty have over the years.

I remember, many years ago, a RichmondCC boy, Geoff Parker, was the Australian U19 captain. Top order, BIG run maker in junior cricket. Struggled to make runs at senior level.
Happens.
Remember him popping up a couple of years later playing Twos footy for Sth Melb / Sydney.

Brad Green, Prahran, was another.

On another note, Australia v The World 1972, on Fox3HD at the moment.
