No suprise at all that Warner got the nod. Obvious he was next in line.

Ed just needs to make sure he's knocking on the door when Hughes gets dropped again.

At least it'll a be a bluebagger for a bluebagger. ;D

It's Tests like the one currently going on in Mumbai that crucify the sport and they must get rid of them as a priority. Tea on the 4th day and the first innings is not over yet, and I don't think they've lost a minute to bad weather.

I might have got this horribly wrong.

A draw with the scores level! How wrong did I get that? And how great is Test cricket?

How was the last ball. The Indian batsmen ran like he was trying to get a not out to protect his average.

:hihi It shows how quickly a game can change. Gee Fidel bowled a good last over.

Good to see the Vics getting back some form. Hussey and Maxwell have looked good.

Not a real good omen as the kiwi's scored pretty freely against bowlers who will probably line up against them in the first test. Kiwi's could beat us. Imagine that.

I believe the new test bowlers were all rested for most of the day and Hilfenhaus, Smith, Beer & the part-timers did the bulk of the bowling today.

Starc, Pattinson, Hilf and Cutting all bowled about 14 overs each. Four wickets between them....

Looking at the stats on cricinfo - out of 108 overs , Beer & Smith bowled 43 overs between them and went for 225 runs. Ed Cowan went for 28 runs in one over. Nic Maddinson took a wicket. Hilfenhaus went for only 1.57 an over. Of the test picks only Pattinson went wicketless but was also the most economical of the at 2.58. Cutting got 2 wickets but went at 4.35, Starc went for 3.21.

Don't get me wrong Joe, I wasn't saying these guys shouldn't be in the team, I believe it's quite overdue. I just reckon the kiwi's are a good chance to knock us over. I don't think it bodes well that from the forty overs these guys bowled they could only muster three wickets between them.

I agree. The kiwis will like their chances.

Don't have to imagine.

They did it, care of Hadlee and a few others, in the mid-80s.

extract from an article on Cricinfo today; ''New Zealand haven't beaten their trans-Tasman rivals in a Test since 1993, and have not won in Australia for 26 years.''

Still doesn't tell us if they have ever won a tesr series against us.

A first test series win in Australia, 1985
After New Zealand's victory in Brisbane in the first match of the 1985 series, the Australians bounced back to win the second test at Sydney, setting up the decider at Perth in late November and early December. Eleven wickets for Richard Hadlee and fine half-centuries by Bruce Edgar and Martin Crowe saw the New Zealanders clinch the series 2–1.
