Maybe not both but 1 certainly should. Hussey probably because it would cause the least ructions.

why not both?
neither is scoring many runs, and the 'experience' they bring to the team doesn't seem to be of much help on days like today, when the experience is needed.

Why do Ponting and Hussey have to call it a day ? Where are our selectors who should be telling them its over ?

This i wholeheartedly agree with.

The tail wags the dog when it comes to the Aussie Cricket side.

As much as their form doesnt warrant selection i am sure Ponting and Hussey will be there on Boxing Day i just cant see them getting the arse the fall guy will be Hughes and i wouldnt be surprised if they chopped Khawaja too cos thats how its seemingly been. Im not suggesting Usman get the arse but i wouldnt be surprised if they drop him.

Re: Cricket G

What a magnificent performance by those mighty Blackcaps! As a fan, I have seen test loss after test loss, bit they have finally come good in one of the sweetest victories I have seen, and this without the great Dan Vettori. Great effort lads. Time to celebrate with a beer or three ;D

clarke putting the acid on hughes in the presser was a joke ,what about ponting, hussey and haddin?

I have had enough . Sorry Punter, Huss , Haddin its all over . "Nick" Hughes back to State cricket.

My team would be

Warner, Cowan, Marsh, Khawaja, Clarke, Watson, Wade, Siddle, Pattinson, Starc, Lyon

Not convinced in Khawaja yet - looks good but gets out when he shouldn't .
Also Starc looks just ok to me but Cutting, Harris , Bollinger all injured.

Was just thinking - we must surely be the first side in history to have Chris Martin's batting come back to bite us in the arse. :hihi

Khawaja is getting off lightly because of a superior looking technique but really his record is no better than Hughes.

The Kiwis certainly deserved their win. Enjoy it Draga.

On another note Warnie has burned his bowling hand so there goes my trip out to the Kangaroo Cricket this weekend.

I think if anyone gets off lightly on this board it's Watson. A very handy bowler -on his day- but an awfully fragile, injury-prone one as well, an "opener" who can't convert a score (one of the position's primary job descriptions), regularly drops vital slip catches, appalling body language when things don't go his way. People say drop him down the order, but then he'll just be an all-rounder who can't bowl half the time taking the spot of one who can. The bloke's just a luxury we can't presently afford IMO.

In the mould of Graham Gooch, I understand Nick Hughes has changed the message on his answering machine...

"Hi you have called Phil Hughes. I am out, probably caught Guptill bowled Martin".

Our CEO (a former first-class player in NZ) walked in crowing about the win, so I'm not inclined to hand out any more congratulations. But well done anyway. :(

The older blokes are past the stage of being able to perform on command. If they're left in, they may contribute just often enough to prolong their careers, but not enough to win Test matches consistently.

If it's good enough to chop the likes of Hodge while the sun was shining, a call is surely due on some of the underperformers now.

You can carry passengers when you are winning - but there is no where to hide when you loose which is becoming to often for my liking.

I have been an absolute Ponting fan from before he started test cricket, but now he is just a shadow of his glory days and I think history will say he should have gone out 18 months ago.

Lucky for the likes of Wessels & Chanderpaul, Leysy wasn't on their side's selection panels. ::)

Horrible comparison. Chanderpaul has an unorthodox stance. Thats where his likeness to Hughes ends.

Its where a batsmans balance & feet are at point of delivery that matters. Chanderpaul despite his strange stance moves across to near perfect position at this juncture.

As leysy has said for years Hughes back foot splays backwards towards fine leg as a first movement. It means he closes himself off from any semi regular shot between square leg all the way to the bowler. Leysy's has enough experience in the game to know this. With the increase in technology teams know as well.

Despite an eye like a dead fish its finally game over for the young man at the top level. About time.

We need leysy to comment. He seems to speak on behalf of CA on PRE.

Sorry JB am travelling through Central/Eastern Europe before hitting Engerland so cant give leysy's unbiased level headed verdict on the latest match.

But from looking at the scores it appears that when R.T.Ponting couldnt carry Australia to a 3rd test win in a row the lesser lights couldnt step up.

About time they picked up the slack.

Unsure how Watson is getting off lightly with any criticism when he did not play and has being Australias best test cricketer over last 2 years.

Have to admit I was wrong regards Warner and Hughes, thought Warner was just a slogger with no patience or ability to grind out an innings and we were hitting desperate measures adding him in to the test squad but yesterdays innings showed he can perform at this level, hope he looks back on it to realise what he did right. Thought Hughes even though a poor technique had the ability still knew how to make test runs but a poor technique will still be exposed at this level of cricket and clearly needs to be dropped from test team.

Would like to see Josh Heazlewood be given an opportunity soon as think he maybe the best of the young bowlers to come through.
