I've got no idea how slow I bowl. The description of Stafford was "only medium".

Fair enough. I believe Stafford, Chaffey, A. Kellaway and maybe a couple of others retired RFC players (I could be wrong) all joined Glen Iris CC about 3 years ago. Apparently they popped in at pre-season training at a few clubs in the area and ended up there.

I agree. Particularly Starc was Mitch Johnson like. I would expect Ryan Harris, if fit, to come in for Starc and he is usually pretty consistent bowling good lines and lengths.

It was however good to see Siddle swing the ball in Hobart by pitching it up a bit further than he normally does. It is amazing how much difference half a yard in length makes in swinging the ball. I personally can't believe it took McDermott to come in and point that out to the bowlers...what the hell was Troy Cooley doing???
Cooley! Classic case of CA jumping at shadows and hiring someone because England won the Ashes in 07. Surprised they havent tried to coax Saker.

watch the big bash last night? i had it on for 5 mins before i got bored and had to turn it over. crowd looked crap as well

Only 12,000 people and the first 6 was hit in the 12th over.
Sydney FC get more to their A-League games.
CA should be a little concerned if Australia's biggest city can only get a handful of people after saturation PR.
I'll stick with soccer as my summer sport.

Seems a lot of people are starting to realise what a load of rubbish 20/20 cricket is - especially a manufactured comp where no-one has any allegiances.

Im not intereseted in it either, the teams are NOTHING, SOULESS they have not prestige no emotional pull for the community.

This is NOT INDIA this is Australia we embrace heritage and tradition with our sports and you support YOUR STATE not a *smile* conntrived conglomerate of dollar chasing mercenaries.

I dont think this concept will take off here they were better leaving the Big Bash as a State versus State comp, that Bushrangers tassie Tiges game was a ripper big crowd genuine interest with interstate passion.

Melbourne Rebels versus Stars big deal who gives a *smile*.

20 /20 is rubbish and just like fairy floss tastes nice and feels good but ya still hungry 3 minutes later give me Test Cricket.

I was out last night but the big bash was being watched in a backroom so I wandered in at times. A few observations .

- Faulkner looks a seriously impressive cricketer at 21 , very good prospect especially at the limited overs level.
- Warner will become one of the superstars of world cricket. His hitting last night wasn't just slogging , it was class batting . His fielding is elite.
- I am worried about the future of Cam Wight. His batting seems to have gone backwards.

like and here here. For the test fan, 20 20 is a negative force. I love aggresion in test cricket, I loved Slater, I was a huge fan, but indescriminate cross-bat slogging (Haddin and warner) has no place in Test cricket, other than maybe piling on runs just before a declaration. It saddens me that tests aren't as popular as they used to be. I love it, but its in real trouble because of 20 20.

Difficult for people to get there at 7pm straight after playing. A few blokes from our club made the effort and said it was the wrong day/timeslot. Suggested Friday would be more appealing.

Don't have much interest myself.

if you have a spare 10 minutes I urge you to read Rahul Dravid's speech delivered at the Don Bradman Oration.

I have one one word to describe my reading - WOW.
And I wonder how many current Australian players could both write and deliver a speech of this magnitude.

It was brilliant. One of the best speeches I've ever heard and the best sports speech easy. Impressive. Even gave me goose bumps at times.

I went last night and agree with both those points. I saw Faulkner bat in the Ryobi Cup game at the G a couple of weeks back and he bowled well last night. A proper all-rounder.

Took me longer than ten minutes as I was reading it with an Indian accent. The least he could've done was thank us for the uranium. :P

It's gratifying to hear of a current player speaking about cricket in those terms. But I question whether the majority have the same passion for the game when it's both their source of income and, in Dravid's words, a "mad merry-go-round".

Give me State vs State over Franchise vs Franchise.
But aren't they essentially city v city? Most of the Renegades and Stars are Victorians, most of the Strikers are South Australian and most of the Sixers are Nswelshmen. Not sticking up for this concept at all but it seems to me most players didnt stray far from their home state.
