Cowan in for Hughes but Khawaja would be stiff to miss ,an undeserving sacrifice for the sake of change, selectors unwilling to make a call on underperforming seniors . Captain would be better off ,& perhaps have more authority , if he wasn’t a selector.

On White, remember when he was talked up by plenty as good enough to be a test batsman & even possible Australian skipper. :hihi

Hilfenhaus is certainly a shock. Looks like we are gearing up for a Masters game with so many old blokes.
Leysy Days said:Whether that is good enough against Indias gun batsmen who knows, but a lot writing him off early ILO.
jb03 said:Not writing him off, simply don't think he has done enough to deserve a recall but doubt he will play anyway.
The thing that Hilfenhaus brings when he is bowling well is genuine swing with the new ball, especially outswing to right handers. The problem for him in the past is that when that swing goes he has become pedestrian.lukeanddad said:Hilfy 19 wickets at 28 this season. Herrick 33 @25.
I agree that Starc will probably nudge Hilfy out - mainly as he is a lefty. Overall, don't reckon bowling is the issue these days.
Let's hope that the batting camp did wonders for Ponting, Hussey, Haddin, Clarke...

India will probably have 6 right handers in their top 7,with Gambhir the only leftie, and I suspect that is why he has been picked. If he is bowling well I would play him ahead of Starc but its a close call.
Big Cat Lover said:Agree. When Hilfy is bowling well he is a difficult proposition. Has a surprisingly mean bouncer when his pace is up. We are having a wet spring/summer, reckon there is a likelyhood of suitable swinging conditions for this test. I would be playing him in front of Starc for sure.
Punxsutawney Phil said:I would also play him before Starc...Starc is still a good prospect, but is rough around the edges at the moment. He is likely to release the pressure that the other bowlers build up. I think Hilfy will be more disciplined in his line and length than Starc and therefore should play.
