Rawlings mentioned in the press conference that Cuz is very vocal in the rooms before the games and pumps up the boys.

Funny hey? We recruit Brown who is much quieter and virtually plays for himself earning big enough money when compared to Cuz who earns much less and adds more to the team when it comes to necessities.

Yeah but lets not forget the damage and gaping hole he left at west coast with all his drug shenannigans. Hes done well and thats awesome but lets not forget the way hes previously behaved.

At the end of his tenure at Richmond, Ben's reputation as one of the best players / leaders will be beyond doubt.

Don't think it would've mattered much... I don't think you can be better than 17-0 :cutelaugh

What he does in his private life means nothing to what he does with Richmond. It's no-one's business.

He learnt from his mistakes and won't repeat them.

I think we should be giving him a 2 year contract. He's done everything right this year and has certainly lifted the kids around him. As for his age, he's pumped plenty of preservatives into himself over the years - 2 years should be no problems.

The club is not going to sack Newy as captain and give it to Cousins.

What I'd like to see is Cuz take on a mentoring role for Newy. Let him learn from the best leader there is. It must be very hard for Chris Newman trying to establish himself as a new captain in such insane circumstances as this year has been.

Everyone is learning from Cuz.

You think Craig the Saints might have won a couple more if they had Cousins?

He should be appointed captain for the next two seasons before taking the reins as the midfield coach.
I don't know about making him captain, although I wouldn't have a problem with it being done unofficially like the way he lead West Coast the year they won the flag. The media would crucify the Tigers if they did make Cuz the captain, but he's a natural leader, you get the impression that the rest of the team would run through brick walls for him if he wanted them to. The club should seriously investigate some sort of coaching option for him post playing career, because I think he'd make a great coach. Imagine the scenes in say 7 years time if Benny C coached the Tigers to a flag.

He's been great for the side, but as a previous poster said, look a the hole he left at the WCE. So his private life is important at the moment. He was allowed to hang around with the wrong people and was not disciplined by the WCE. So he has to be jumped on now, keep himself good and the benefits will flow. He can do an Ablett after he finishes.

Would be interesting if Saints miss out on the flag.

You can't say that.
Arguably you could say that the Aints players resolved to step up themselves once they missed out on him.
Many of them have gone to the next step in spite of not having Ben around.

RFC need to wrap him up in a 2 year deal at least from next year.....look at Harvey....35 was and still ok.....

No the club won't replace Newman with Cousin's as Captain, but Cousins will be in the Senior Leadership Group that is a certainty.

Contract wise, 2010 for sure, option for 2011 and 2012 (if his body is going okay).
Pay wise, I'd suspect he'd go to between $300K & $400K (salary, incentives etc).

Ben Cousins has left a lot of critic's with egg all over their collective faces. He's done IMO exceptionally well at Richmond, with all his experience and leadership skill's, he's the sort of player that is so badly needed to show the younger guys how to go about it. He's doing that and more, his speech at half time shows he is keen to be around the young players and give them the benefit of his experience.

His contract should also include the option of Cousins becoming a full time coaching member of RFC when he hangs up his boots, as much as I would like him to become the mid field coach whilst he's still playing.
