We are a *smile* joke. Everyone struggled in 2004 under Frawley. He then does a total knee reco so was always gonna struggle in 2006. Is one of the cleanest ball-handling players in the comp. One of the most evasive & creative players and has great speed. Was only 21-22 when we so stupidly axed him so there was also plenty of natural improvement to be expected. I was spewing then when we delisted him and am gutted now. WELL DONE RFC YOU ABSOLUTE JOKE OF A FOOTBALL CLUB. Typical of most on here who don't rate Rodan; not the brightest supporters in the league thats for sure.

I see the myth is getting bigger. Rodan was nothing like that with Richmond, good on him for kicking on but I am almost 90% sure he never would have achieved the same if he'd stayed. Russell and Dunstall are just having a cheap shot.

Totally disagree. He was in brilliant form before he did his knee. He was given no time or latitude to get that form back after he recovered from the knee. There is no reason he wouldnt be playing like that for us. Dunstall and Russell are stating facts.

I wouldn't say brilliant form. Played 2 or 3 good games. His best was pretty good but his worst wasn't great at all. He did average 10 possessions a game in 2004 (16 games). Personally wasn't fussed either way when we let him go, he was off a knee injury and its hard to tell whether a player will recover from this. I guess in hindsight another year wouldn't have hurt. Saying that, he is very hot and cold. 20 possessions in the first half but only 6 after half time. Wasn't there when the game was there to be won for Port. Has been hot and cold this year already. I'm not sure that he won't be too badly missed. In the future we have Deledio, Tambling, Foley, Cotchin, Connors, Collins, Edwards all with a good chance of making the grade.

He's laughing at us and good luck to him, another bloke suffocated by playing in a poor side who finds nourishment in greener pastures.

Killed them tonight, was a game breaker, we don't have many of them.

Love watching david play but his game tonight was typical of his senior career so far had a BLINDER of a first half but couldn't finish it off in the last half. Not a match winner at this stage in his career but he reminds me of a young andrew simonds, you know he has that something special in him and can't wait for the day when it finally come out.

I mentioned this on another post. I remember Rodan's game in a NAB cup game against the pies in 2005 and he looked like he was ready to take a big step forward. I really expected him to blossom under Wallace as his acceleration and propensity for taking players on etc. would have fitted nicely into Wallace's gameplan. His knee injury soon after could not have come at a worse time. I know he wasn't setting the world alight under Frawley and in 2006 recovering from the knee but IMHO he should have been given one more year after 2006 to show if he was up to it after the knee injury. His strength and low centre of gravity ensured he would be a handy player in heavy traffic and he wasn't a bad user of the footy (I remember him passing a centering ball in his first game in 2002 - it was almost instinctive and indicated he had a good deal of natural talent and a footy brain. He certainly dropped away within a year or two (like many of his team mates) but the change in coach etc. might have eventually turned him around at the RFC. With the regular rotations nowadays, he might have been a very useful player for us.

Shouldn't have been delisted ,stupid decision. Saw him play as a junior and loved the way he played. He is just another example of Richmonds poor player development and i hope he has a long career with port
this is where the club is on a hiding to nothing. we hang onto so many players for way to long yet when we do get rid of a player and at the time it was the right decision they cop it.
as a club we have to get better and quicker at assesing our players. inevitably every now and then we will get one wrong. just like every now and then if you go thru the draft process you will get the odd one wrong or hopefully its just the odd one. does this mean we should stop going thru the process. of course not.

You have to remember that 14 other clubs had the chance to pick him the draft so obviously their views were akin to ours.

Not here to stir the pot or anything I'm just interested.

What did you guys think of Rodan in his time at Richmond?
Was it right to de-list him?
Do you wish you had him back now?
Did you know that he won the Morrish Medal 2000, 2001?

Just want to get some insight on how he actually progressed at your club and what the supporters thought of him during his time
and whether you thought he was hard done by and if you were angry at the decision.

Thanks.

Apologies if there have been D. Rodan threads before! :)

HI, port

Rodan was a lovely person.

I liked him BUT, I recall his last contract negotiation he threatened to walk, he sort of held the club to ransom a bit, that annoyed me.

As far as his playing, well any kid that got developed by the ACE of DUD, Fuddly Duddly I'm a potatoe head Frawley, really had no future.

There is a nursery rhime that will explain Rodan to a T, the grand old duke of york.

When the team was up he was up, when the team was down he was down, and when they were half way up he was neither up nor down.

Much the same a Fiora.

Anyone notice how once port started getting smashed Rodan was quiet, or Fiora didn't get a touch when the saints got smashed.

Good luck to Rodan he deserves a go, he probably would be better for us than Hyde or Tivva, but to be honest, I don't rate him, or miss him, he would only be taking the spot of Tambling, Cotchin or Connors if he was here.

Cheers Port, sorry about that horrific loss last night.

Can't argue with that.
