so in terms of style / gameplan :

we get malthouse we get the west coast / Collingwood style of football. Defense based with movement around the flanks, before banging it into a centre half forward..

If we get Williams we get Ports high possession game and high skill level...

Hardwick dont know...likely to be Hawthorns zone ?

Campbell dont know...likely to be Eade based/doggies, high skill, mid sized fwds scoring options...?

But given that Hardwick has come from a success based career....ie Essendon flags, Hawks Flags, Port Flags...and has age on his side..fresh ideas..

He'd have to be the frontrunner. Hardwick for me...

If we were to go an untried coach, I would like Hardwick.

If it were an experienced coach Malthouse.

My preference of the two would be Mick. I initially didn't think we would have any chance of getting him and almost left him out of my thoughts, but it appears (if you believe what you read and hear) that there is a chance he won't be at Collingwood next year, and if thats the case, I reckon we throw everything we can at him.

Doesn't take crap...and bases his gameplan on an even contribution across the board with a focus on accountability and defensive skills. I reckon this, particularly with the poorly skilled list we have at the moment (and it is likely to remain that way for a while yet), is the way to go. Could be just a pipedream though.

Good point Phil, I agree. Malthouse seems to get the best out of his playing group unlike Wallace.
I think appointing Malthouse would be seen as a conservative approach by the board also.
If the board go for a Hardwick or any other untried coach such as Wayne Campbell then they are putting their necks on the line.

Malthouse would be the favourite if available.

I'll put my hand up. I wanted Wallace and was happy when we got him.

In hindsight it was an incorrect decision and Wallace has IMO proven possibly the most disappointing coach in the history of the RFC. He had a five year imprimatuer to get the joint right and he has failed miserably; worse than could be imagined. It beggars belief that he has got it so wrong. The worst thing about it is that he has proven to be extremely SOFT in his evaluation of football talent. McMahon, Patrick Bowden, Kingsley etc etc etc. PLEASE!

I agree, guilty on all counts.

Looking back I now tend to think that Wallace had lost that uncompromising edge he had when he was at the doggies. He lost that ruthless desire to succeed regardless of cost.

I think that what we badly need at Tigerland now, a person who is hungary ruthless and obsessed with a passion to succeed.

One thing I do know for sure after the Wallace debacle is that they are lucky I dont have any imput into picking a coach.

This is one of the most important decisions in the clubs recent history and one they can't afford to get wrong with GC17 and the new Sydney team on the radar.

Its not a position I would like to be in, but some really hard decsions loom. Lets hope the board are up to it and get them right this time.

I would certainly be drawing on a bloke with Sheeds experience when they start looking at the process.

I too was happy with Terry when we secured him. I guess I like many others got caught up in the feeling that it was a kind of a coup to snare someone who was well regarded. Over the past 3 years though he has completely lost me.

I wonder whether the presence of Sheedy at the club will be a help or a hindrance in attracting a prospective coach? I know his role at the RFC seems to be fairly minor, but I have been told by a couple of different people who claim to know that Hardwick isn't a fan of Sheedy.

Not sure how Mick Matlhouse or Williams get on with him these days and whether there would be any issues there.
