why do so many on here keep banging on about the past?

as willo so eloquently put it, we need to know if Dimma can get us to a flag.

everything else is background static.
Yep, past is done n worked through, next questions are top four n finals wins, time for pushing forward is upon us.

Sounds like the Board is saying all the way with DH to the end of the line. If he is extended now he will only be sacked if we ever plunge again. Coach for life while he remains capable of top 8 finishes.

How many other coaches would not have won one final after six years at the helm and going into his seventh?
Our list wasn't the train wreck that people suggest when Dimma took over as we had already had two years of good draft picks before he arrived.

List wasn't a train wreck?

15th the season before he took over, no finals since 2001.

Sure its a bout the a future. What can hardwick do now! But he gets the chance to deliver is all some of us are saying. Some think he's been given to long. The joke our club was when he took over, to close to a contender for 3 seasons in a row, buys him and the club more time to deliver on becoming a contender.

Only from there comes the chance at the ultimate success.

Seems a more likely path than sack him at 3-10 in 14, like some have been demanding. Had we done that, I feel we would be talking about breaking back into the 8 as our hopes for next year.

Get into the finals & in come underdone players who have been out with injuries eg Newman Griff & Sheds. One wonders how these high paid coaching & selection panel keep their jobs. Need a guy like Akermanis to take over after DH & Co keep on not keeping on.

Hardwick had Deledio, Riewoldt, Edwards, Cotchin, Rance, Vickery, Foley, Newman, King, Cousins and then Martin targeted as our first pick before he arrived.

More than a handy base to work with.

Profligate user of high end talent is our Dimma.

But he had to find a way to use them, which is something Wallace didn't do by and large. Deledio had never played much in defence under Wallace, in fact when Rawlings came in and they did a player on player review, one of the things Lids was criticised for was his defensive work. Riewoldt won the Coleman his first year under Hardwick. Edwards was often played out of defence under Wallace (had Wallace stayed I think Edwards would have been ruined as a footballer). Cotchin was injured a lot during Wallace's time with him. Rance was still struggling, he also copped that horrific facial injury in 2009. Vickery's first game was Rawling's first game. King was still struggling as a small defender, it was Hardwick who decided to play him as a small forward. Not bad for a bloke who everyone says can't think out of the box, is afraid to try young players and stuck in his ways.

Exactly right.
Of course the real worry is Brendan Gale and Dan Richardson still think Hardwick is the man to take us forward.
That is a big worry .If they haven't woken up to Dimma's deficiencies by now then one wonders if they are the right men for the job.

This is the first year in many I feel confident in our list balance and am genuinely excited about what they can achieve.

Separating myself from the hot under the collar humiliation of finals defeats and losses to Melbourne etc I cannot deny he's taken us a long way. Time to take the next step now. I think he finally has the tools to do it with a dynamic list.

The only thing that has ever concerned me about Hardwick is his conservatism but I understand how he got that way with such a limited playing group at a club pulling itself up by the bootstraps from dysfunction. He had little leeway to be any different with debt, supporter expectation and uneven drafts hanging over his head.

He's done wonders but time to consolidate and step up again.

Thank goodness DH inherited those players or we might be in a bit of trouble. Now for them to perform in September.

Naw, can cope a lot on Dimma in game coaching and use of the tools at his disposal but the list needed a major overhaul. I'll judge the last three years differently to the first part of his tenure.

Top four list for sure. Should have gone from 15th to premiership favourites in one season if Dimma was a competent coach

All gone up a notch and dug deep in our finals losses when the game was up for grabs, if it wasn't for hardwicke foiling them at every turn we would have won all three.

Oh, and lets not forget Donuts, that kid was a gun.

The side that picks him up will be unbeatable.* Which side ended up winning the dog fight for his services? Hawks? Cats? Pies? Dees? what the blue cheats?

*unless coached by another hardwicke.

There was a first Hardwicke?
