Dan Richardson

Dan Richardson is going to be another boon for RFC. Gary March and Benny Gale have established a standard by which they wih RFC to develop into a highly-regarded and respected organisation.
Richardson's wealth of experience in the management of footballers positions him ideally as the Tigers' football manager and I, for one, am happy that he is in charge of the footy department.

Yes, who really knows what state our player payments actually were or are since Cameron left and Dan Richardson took over
With the number of players coming out of contract this year, establishing which players were required, player type we have, what is required to fill holes in the list, future list management etc, it was always going to be an onerous task first up.
I was comfortable that we would re-sign our players that were required and a bit hopeful that we may add an Adams. Then when it seemed like it may have been long odds to keep Conca and Martin things were looking very dismal.
Conca re-signing restored some faith, hopefully Martin resolves his differences and settles back in to the fold.
If we are able to attract an Adams (type) well and good. If not, I'm confident we will pick another good kid, have some loose change left for a tilt at a FA next year.
Big job this year for DR and it will be ultra important to have it all mapped out for the future. Good luck, for all our sakes. I think he's off to a good start.

All week we have heard about how hopeless this club is, how inept Richardson is ... blah blah blah.

When are some posters on this site going to get it into their thick skulls that this administration is professional and very competent ?

This is the new Richmond.

So true, some just get carried away.

I mean, obviously Craig Cameron is a smart bloke. No argument here. And when we recruited him he brought with him an infrastructure of talent scouts. So that worked out very well. Because we didn't used to have any.

Gary March legacy. Benny Gale helpful. Either way they have to over rule Barry's lad this time.

Not now, of course. But in time they have to. Martin stays. So does Conca.

*smile* Hardwick's Wallace moment of deluson. Sacrifice Martin and Conca for Vickers and Titch? Schulz would break Vickery in half. And Titch is too busy being a genius to play adequate football.

Richardson is being nice to an ideal while he, a novice, sacrifices what we need to achieve it.

Martin, Vickery and Titch have not yet delievered what they promise. Only one of these yet might. Wake up, RFC.

Whilst I appreciate the articulate nature of this post, the workmanlike approach of Richardson seems to be paying more dividends.

Martin leaving will only not matter if Dan gets more in return. We were bundled out of the finals and it will harder to get back in there next year with a tougher draw - we need our list to be significantly more talented than it was this year and natural development will only cover a part of it. Losing Martin without adequate compensation would put us further in the hole in accumulating more talent.
More to the point, we need to run every game out. The talent was there (as evidenced by the first halves of most games) but we couldn't run games out - even in the early rounds.

Rd 1 we had Carlton on toast and nearly got over-ran. Rd 4, we were in front of Collingwood and ended up getting flogged. Rd 5 we couldn't stay in front of Fremantle. Rd 6 we were within 5 points of Geelong at half time and got flogged.

In all of those games, and many others, in the first half we showed that we have the talent to play as good as or better than Top 6 sides. But once the run went out of our legs, the opposition started having more players at the majority of contests and was able to play over the top of us.

Add to that; Carters post about improvement that we can expect from the majority of the list next year, and I say that the ability to run games out is more important than a need to improve talent by holding on to Martin and getting new talent. We do need to improve each year, but we can do that next year by running every game out.

Its a great point. Look at Port this year running on top of the ground at the end of most games - Darren Burgess is back there after his Liverpool stint. They also had him when they won their premiership. I hope we are reviewing our fitness personnel and strategies.

We already did this last summer, missed out on Burgess, so won't be changing much this summer I would think.

I agree, up to a point, mld. Richardson has played it balls out and if he keeps Martin as well as Conca he's been very, very good.

Not many people in the caper know the true worth of players like Richardson would with his background.

He's put the plums out there early doors, but has played it perfectly thus far.

I think
1. inappropriate to judge his performance a couple of months into the job
2. mid-way through these two crucial signings (Conca and Dusty).

But likewise I am reluctant to praise his handling so far until Dusty is signed. Dusty walking, while potentially the right thing long term if he really is so naive to leave the club, should be avoided if possible as his future development could be the difference between us being a middle-of-the-road club and potentially a cup challenger.
