Daniel Jackson threads [Merged]

Re: Daniel Jackson

Bloody big ranga played another quality team game last night, his young apprentice did too.

Jacko's having an extremely consistent year and looks to be comfortably on track to finish in our top half dozen players, lacks the razzle dazzle of some but makes up for it with persistent grunt. Young Flossie looks to have all the necessary tools to be one helluva scary bastard in a few years.

Re: Daniel Jackson

Recon Jacko is having a brilliant year, bar Geeeeeelong, and is doing everything asked of him. Looks to be buying into the 'plan' and his role within it.

Well done Dan, and keep up the great work!

Re: Daniel Jackson

He has been consistent. Seems to have removed some of the howler turnovers out of his game. This has always been my biggest criticism. Tucky was able to adjust his game. Hopefully Jacko is sticking to his limitations too. Keep working at it Jacko, you currently deserve your place in the side.

Re: Daniel Jackson

This bloke started the year in career best form and has improved significantly since.

The Essendon game was the break out game, for mine. See, Daniel Jackson is not an inside player. Never was. Can't get it. Not his caper. But he was winning the ball inside. Never seen it before. And twice he broke through the pack to clear and used brilliantly by hand. Footy brain use. Inside clearance use. The dumb ones aren't allowed anywhere near this play. Seven clearances for the night.

There was an odd moment. Very odd. Action had just cleaned them all up to win the pill and he came out with it only to find Trent Cotchin running alongside him. He burned the captain cold. Dry ice. Lucky we were getting a hiding or he would have been shot. :hihi But he wasn't shot.

Against WCE he twice ran through contests and U turned rather than lay it off by hand. And twice he sent left footers down the line. IIRC one went out on the full. His right was open. But he wasn't shot.

There is something afoot here. (Oops.) The panel thinks Jackson can improve his kicking. And if he does, everything changes for him. FFS he's being encouraged to lairise (or he'd be hanged). This *smile* is their idea.

The deluded ferals on the Richmond coaching panel act as if they can make a premiership midfielder of Daniel Jackson. (It's caught me off guard. He's to replace Tuck.) We can be certain of one thing: they've convinced Action.

Interesting times. Maybe he can do it.

Nice work D'E.

Jackson was a solitary shining light in the dull spectacle of the performance against Essendon. He's always had good qualities and major flaws - now it seems they are being addressed by the club and the man.

Re: Daniel Jackson

Action is the watch player, for mine, over the next eight weeks, in particular. He is a hard bastard. It'd be great if he did the thing we all try for and mainly miss.

Unlike Muscles, Jackson keeps his cool under pressure these days.

Most coaches would shoot Titch for those birthday party handballs. But not Dimma. He wants his players to stretch themselves. And that's why Action is allowed to kick along the line on the left. And burn the captain.

That's why when Richmond players don't take risks we know it aint the coach stifling them.

He doesn't have Jake King's natural football acumen but he wants it.

Jackson runs. He works and he hits like two men. He won't back down. He can break a line. About time we promoted him to the leadership group. ;D When I see Jackson improve I think that I can. Does Martin?

Re: Daniel Jackson

Credit were credit is due,the Jackson lovers deserve it in spades!

Just love reading about his amazing attributes.
He's a hard at it type, runs all day.... & um ... err ... hmmm.

Things end quite abruptly when ever talking of his foot skills or decision making, you know, the skills that other footballers are judged on !

Will be interesting to see how our other footballers are judged in comparison to Jacko by our footy dept at the Dyer medal party. Got a feeling the big unskilled ranga may be embarrassing quite a few of those talented real footballers at the halfway mark of the season.

Re: Daniel Jackson

Love to see how supremely defensive blokes like this play in a final.

Still think he is more liability than asset, but he could shine in September.

3 points here Unc which your exclamation mark indicates you're just not getting. First, he's been pretty good in those areas this year. Second, they aren't the only 2 skills footballers are judged on. Third, no footy player is perfect, 1 or 2 every generation might come very close, but no footy player is perfect. Their strengths and weaknesses are weighed up and calls are made, thats the caper. The Jacko baggers undervalue the good, and overstate the bad, the coaches do not. There has been times in the past when Jacko has been out of form when the baggers have had a point. Not this year Unc.

Def. in our best 12 so far this year. The coaches would be happy if he was in our best 20.

Actually I should have put hard worker in there as well ,as he is very good in that area & gets the most out of himself.
Problem is & always has been no other player on our list kills our momentum more than him & I stand by my thoughts on Jackson.

We could use your 3rd point for every player in the league but that won't gift them a game now will it tigersnake?
Your 2nd point is an interesting topic in itself, what skills are/should be valued more than others?
your 1st point is rather generous I would say, pretty good?

By no means being smart here but who are you comparing his kicking & decision making against?

The clanger/ momentum killer thing is a bit like Richos missed sodas. He didn't do it that often, but when he did it it was memorable. Again, barring the Geelong game when he was poor, he hasn't done many momentum killers, and any momentum promoters he has done, which he has, just don't get any credit. When the heat is on, he's a prime mover. When not much is happening, he does something, gets us going. On point 3 applying to every player in the league, exactly, thats the point. Every side has a non-classy, selfless, unfashionable team player.

Yes point 2 is an interesting topic. I've said it plenty of times, I believe people just don't understand and/or appreciate what actually does and his role. People criticise on the basis that what he does is easy, and that we could get any old player who is a bit better kick to do his job. This is the bottom line: it ain't easy, and any old player who is a better kick can't do what he does.

Re: Daniel Jackson

We all know DJ's limitations.

But unlike others in a similar class (muscles, nahas, etc) he has actually been able to improve this year and limit his howlers. I have always thought he would be upgraded in time, but at his current rate, he is doing more than enough.

Good on him.

Reckon you might be selling Jacko a touch short snakey one. Wouldn't surprise me one bit to see him in our top half dozen so far this year. Performing at the top of expectations where other more elite players have struggled to reach their usual lofty standards.

Re: Daniel Jackson

Honest opinions of Jackson today ?
Dropped a crucial chestmark in the third quarter cost us a goal
Every time the ball is at his feet fumbles like in the last quarter and Danger kicked the goal from 50 .
I cant see the positives of him being in the team
Thoughts ?
