Daniel Jackson threads [Merged]

Re: Daniel Jackson

When he retires, he is going to have a hell of a 30 sec Youtube Highlight goals package.

So far he has that stunning goal from the boundary against Essendon in one of his early games. Then there is the killer against Hawthorn last year when he did the disciplined kick to the front of the goal-square, missed his target by 30 metres and put the ball 10 rows back in the cheer-squad, straight through the middle, of course. Who could forget the Mark Murphy tackle that he brushed aside before goalling in round 1? Then there is this goal on the weekend is arguably the best one he has ever kicked.

Re: Daniel Jackson

Just watched the highlights, that was no miskick, lucky perhaps, but skilled nevertheless. Ripper goal.

The one on Saturday night, was a beauty, it has to be a contender for goal of the year.

Jacko has to be close to having 2 goals of the year candidates in the top 5 :

- goal against the Dogs;
- 70m torp goal against West Coast

Re: Daniel Jackson

Are we all the Daniel Jackson bandwagon after satedeys mighty win against a VFL standard team.
Lets not get carried away.
The bloke is a tragic footballer

Re: Daniel Jackson

Daniel Jackson is an elite standard afl footballer, Maybe top3 in the comp, Absolute superstar.... When he doesn't have the ball

Average suburban footballer when he has it

Re: Daniel Jackson

jacko has driven me insane with grief and frustration at times..he can be terrible....BUT in all honesty,if you care to spoend some time watching him closely you'll see is a very important and valuable player for us..does a load of 1 %,era every game..in and under, sheparding, bumping oppositions players, link up work....he is much better than many may think

To reply to each sentence:

-Hardly.

-Again, hardly.

-Oakleigh-Nicholls was a tragic footballer, Jackson is VFL standard footballer who can occassionally rise to the level of a serviceable footballer in the AFL, nothing more, often less.

considering a footballer will have the ball for about 1% of a game at most, and the majority will have it for far less, that would mean Jackson rates very highly in the AFL.

Very well said. I don't think there's any argument that his fine skills and decision making have sometimes let him down, but I can't even count how often I've seen him block an opposition player off the ball, or be the only player running to make spAce, or repeat pressure act. He's very very valuable, and elite off the ball.

Interesting logic...

There you go, another one that I did forget about. Is that the scrubby pass to a leading forward from outside 50 against WC? So much time elapsed between the kick and the Goal umpire's eventual flag-waving that I forgot who kicked it.

I would go further, we all know he doesn't have the skills or speed to be in our top dozen players, but if you are talking about our bottom 6, then I think he would measure up fairly well with most other teams bottom 6 - he is a very handy depth player now for us and I think he earns his spot week to week and is not gifted games.

unarguable i would have thought.

it was the one where Jackson saw the forward lead from the square so he unleashed an allmigthy torp that sailed the pack and skidded straight thru the middle. yes i think we are talking about the same one.

Really?

So going with your logic... If a pilot did 99 percent of his training in a flight simulator and 1 percent up in the air wich would you prefer he were better at?

The 1 percent of time your talking about in afl is very very important

so is tackling, blocking, shepparding, spoiling, pressuring, zoning, leading, dummy leading, troop marshalling, off the ball running and coralling, which youve put Jackson in the top 3 in the league in.
when you add the highlight reel goals that he produces on a regular basis it really does show why he is so highly rated by the club.

Re: Daniel Jackson

He puts a lot of effort into hunting the ball, harassing the opposition and is using it far better these days it's a credit to him. How do people rate him compared to other teams equivalents ?

I reckon he's better than Jones from Saints, Crowley from Freo, Hocking from Ess, Hunt from Gee, Picken from Dogs etc
