Daniel Jackson threads [Merged]

Re: Daniel Jackson

If Jacko is rated as a Senior Player, not having him play hurts the Team.
Jacko is no good to us sitting in the stands.

The eloquent Jacko off the field plays like an insane serial killer on the field.
How to we find a middle ground and keep Jacko out on the oval?

Dan is one of a rare breed of intimidating players in our team. Sure he needs to temper his aggression but I'd rather see him continue to make the opposition players hear footsteps rather than turn into a pussy out there.

There's a difference between "intimidating the opposition" with fair, tough play rather than with cheap shots ie elbow to the head. It just makes Jackson look like a plastic tough guy and a sniper. He's turning into Campbell Brown.

I hope the club don't give in to knee jerk requests to drop him just to be seen to be making a stance. Fingers crossed we've moved on since the time of the Richo press conference circus.

How is it a "knee jerk reaction"? Jackson doing dumb, undisciplined things and getting suspended is nothing new. How many games alone did he miss last year through suspension? 6-8? What if he comes back and snipes someone again and cops another suspension? Does the club just accept it? Personally, I would've added another week which is a club imposed suspension and if it happens again I'd drop him from the leadership group. That or make him come back through Coburg. This is not the example you want your leaders setting especially with a young group.

I agree Barnzy and it's bloody frustrating.
Jacko is
1 - very intelligent - seems almost everyone accepts this
2 - a valuable player when in form - many people accept this
3 - a serial offender when it comes to these "dumb" (i.e. not brave – but dumb) acts – possibly unanimous?

Unfortunately 3 really detracts from 1 and 2 – and we’re all seeking the best way of ensuring that it never occurs again.

6-8 last year?   :blah

Feeling a need to exaggerate to make your point Barnzy?  Dan had missed 5 matches through suspension over the last 3 years.  3 of those last year, from memory, the club challenged so obviously didn't believe were justified.

Very intelligent is probably stretching it. Articulate and intelligent for a footballer is probably closer to the mark.

Seriously let's not get carried away. Jackson is nowhere near as dirty as Brown. Was a simple error of judgement. Shouldn't have done it but he did. 1 week's rest. Whoopeee!

Re: Daniel Jackson

I'm still hoping he was paying one back for something earlier. He seemed to intent rather than a brain snap.

Dunno. I like Jacko and I like the team having an enforcer, but only when it's needed.

For a footballer? How are you measuring intelligence. Dan had an ENTER score of 96.65 despite the distractions of becoming an AFL footballer. You've got to be reasonably intelligent to achieve that.

I didn't say he wasn't reasonably intelligent.

I'd reserve judgement on whether someone was 'very intelligent' until they had achieved something with that intelligence, whether in academia or in the real world. That's just me, people are free to disagree.

With his record he was incredibly lucky to get only 1 week.
If the kangaroos had any supporters they'd be up in arms over it.

It's the MRP punishing Richmond by only giving him a week.

Re: Daniel Jackson

Jacko would have taken either Black or Power, and would have made a difference. Should have been there tonight.....shows how a stupid act can be costly. Fortunately, not tonight.

Totally agree. We missed him tonight that is for sure. If he had been out there to do a shut-down job, I think it fair enough to say we would have won by a fair bit more, and earlier in the match.

Dimma kept having to put out little spot fires.

Hanley, O'Brien, Black, Power and Rich all played in spurts because Dimma was limited in his options. They threatened us, and we couldn't quite stamp them out.

Re: Daniel Jackson

Yes Jacko will be in next week for Tuck which will be good as I see him going to Mundy. Would have loved Jacko to play on Black tonight.

Re: Daniel Jackson

anyone that cant see a place for jacko in our best 18 needs to watch the game tonight and specifically the 3rd quarter.
