Daniel Jackson threads [Merged]

Re: Daniel Jackson

Yep I can agree with that, certainly not playing as well this year as his last 2 years from what I can see on TV.

One who can really strengthen the midfield ranks, even if it is a bit of a longshot, is Morton. It's been discussed before but the last few games of last year showed what he's capable of in that type of role.

agree. Morton over Jackson in the middle is a no brainer. Would provide as much of a contest as jackson and be much more effective going forward. His last few games last year in the middle were massive.

watched jackson closely and I've come to the conclusion that the main reason people think he's tough, strong and always at a bottom of a pack is because he's so slow to get rid of the ball. I call him "the vice" because when he gets his hands on the ball he doesn't let go, and is brought to ground. has the slowest hands - slow draw mcgraw. A decent player would have dished off to a teamate to our advantage whereas jackson almost always creates a stoppage.

Yeh, I didn't mention him but he definitely showed a bit in those last few games. And he's got more talent than most. Appears to have been pigeon-holed by the club as a forward, although who knows what issues he has had, how his fitness is, is he playing to team structures etc. As you say, right now it is a long shot but whilst he is on the lsit there is some hope.

Re: Daniel Jackson

I call him tough because he's one of the few the flies the flag whenever the opposition try and work over one of our young midfielders.

He's also one of the few that puts blocks in to give our midfielders an extra yard head start.

Drop Jackson all you want but I hope someone else can pick up some of the good stuff only Jacko does out there.

And although he takes a long time he doesn't kick the ball to advantage often enough. Big last half of the season for Jackson.

hulk hogan isn't doing much these days. perhaps we could give him a run. jackson's tough guy act is all chest pumping bull sh!te. you don't have to be big and barrel chested to stop your opponent and lay a tackle. just ask the young mckenzie who did a number on cotchin. we need someone who can negate the oppositions best players, not a tough guy out there.

All well and good but we don't have anyone out there who flies the flag in the middle, or who offers a block. Like I said, drop him all you want but we need someone doing that stuff to protect our kindergarten midfield.

What is this tonight ? There's no such thing as some positive traits in the favourite whipping boys ? It must be all bad and useless ? There can't by any good in their game ?

Some *smile* ridiculous posting tonight. Those that have had to go quiet over because their favourite whipping boys have done well are now venting that built up venom.

Re: Daniel Jackson

he matched moloney in the 1st half, and was involved in 3 of our goals. not surprisingly the one time moloney ran out of the centre square with the ball in the 1st half jackson was on the bench, and grigg was lined up on him.

jackson is well ahead in our tackles, and 2nd for centre clearances. im sure if we had someone better to play his role they would. but we dont.

if anything jackson gets an easy ride on these boards for the deficient player he is.

Re: Daniel Jackson

Clearly.

Most contested possessions. Most Clearances. Most inside 50's. Most kicks.

Smashed Jackson in anyone's language.

Re: Daniel Jackson

he should have been in tiger colors instead of pick 12 in 2004.

Always had deficiencies but clearly gone backwards. I wonder if with all the suspensions he's had whether it's put him off his game?

He said as much on Ch7 this morning...

Interesting.
If that has impacted his ability to tag then his shelf life as an AFL player is very limited because it's obvious he doesn't have many other strings to his bow.

disagree he smashed jackson in the first half.
he definitely had a big influence on the game though. ill be interested watching a replay of the 2nd half whether jackson was matched up against him still.

a couple of interesting stats on moloney- using pro-stats- he had 14 1st possessions- 10 clearances but only 9 contested possessions. how does that happen? also he had 17 turnovers?

Re: Daniel Jackson

Interesting discussion in here also I see...........

No grey area though, he either can't play for sh!t or is still a high priority if only for his body and protective capabilities its seems !

Hmmmmm.......... I could see his type being disillusioned by the new rules and thus hurting the way he plays the game...........being the intellectual type that he obviously is from all accounts.

I'll say it again though...........he WONT be dropped, bet my bottom dollar on it, as much as I hate to admit it, he is STILL in our current BEST 22, which is nothing but an indictment on how short of depth we truly are.

He'll get a game based purely on the basis of numbers, as do about a dozen others every week, thats just the way it is at the moment and will continue that way for at least another 4 years.

I missed the last half of last year and was totally unaware that M. Morton played some type of midfield role during that time by the way ....... again, interesting and at this stage of the game I'd love to see that right now if the guy is fit physically and mentally to play at the AFL level again.
