Danny Meyer

Deledio is the exception rather than the rule. people must be patient and wait at least 3-4 years for these kids to develop. No doubt Meyer has talent - what he does with it depends on how hard he works.

What I've seen of Danny is all class, if he puts some weight on then along with Lids and Tuck he's going to be part of a very potent midfield in the future.
Disco love the avatar.

Clubs will regret not taking Meyer when they had the oppotunity. The pies come to mind in taking Egan.
[/quoteWhat do you base this comment on Madcap?
Well just a gut feeling and a few things Meyer did in his 1st game against Port.Coupled with the possibility that the Pies stuffed up again ;D
oh

Danny is a young kid who will need several years to reach his potential. St Kilda, The Bulldogs and Gelong recruited their teams in 2000 and 2001 and the majority of their youngsters started to come good last year, in the the Bulldogs case, they are only coming good now.

Deledio, Tambling, Meyer, Polo, Gilmour, McGuane, Limbach and co should not be relied upon for anything other than cameos next year. Anything more is a bonus.

Jackson, Raines, Hartigan, Schulz, Foley, Thursfield and Roach are a little bit older and might be looking to produce a little more but they are also very young and still have to cement their spot.

Phantom thought Danny looked young at Club80, Alex Gilmour looked like a 14 year old! Deledio and TAmbling were very similar.

Do we really expect them to compete with the likes of Voss, Gehrig and Mooney and not be intimidated?

There is a long way to go for each of these kids.

the thing i'm worrrying about is just when he'll be hitting his straps, the SA clubs will come looking for him and we could see a homesick star :-[
Actually we have a pretty good record on keeping our "interstaters" when it comes to the so called "homesickness" thinky ma jig ;D.
Merenda was probally the most recent. One bloke who got homesickness and we should have let him go was Holland.Would have got both Jonno & Wells. Thanks spud >:(

You couldn't have seen the knee injury coming.

On the basis of his 2001 year ... It was important we kept Holland, especially with Benny Gale retiring.

Hindsight is 50/50 remember, no matter what we think of some of Danny's and his teams decisions ... This one at the time was the correct one.

Wells? Pfft, a soft, outside midfielder - Tivendale was flogging him until North got a run on ... Don't want, nor need him.

yep agree with you there, holland was unlucky not to get all-australian in 2001

Sadly thats always a danger with interstaters. Seriously tho if you were from Adelaide (where they roll the footpaths up and turn off the traffic lights when it gets dark) why the hell would you wanna leave the cultural, chic, festival, sporting capital of Australia to go back.
Ahh i see its somthing to do with INSTITUTIONALISATION!!!! :hihi

I agree that Meyer has all the aspects of a star in the making. Not this coming season, but the next he will make an impact with a bigger body. Depending on how much mass he puts on over the pre-season, he could be a definite nomination for the rising star next yr.

holland never was and still is not a footballers *smile* and for any one yet alone a afl coach to think otherwise just shows how little people look at players.
i can put up with duds well sometimes i can. but i cant abide them when they are feted as champions by one eyed supporters who let the jumper they are wearing cloud their judgement.

I would expect polo to get a nomination for the RS, before Meyer does.

Just watched the tigers V port game from round 6 which was Meyer's first game.

Very impressive first game I thought, showed that he knows how to find the pill and looks very composed when in possession.
Great skills.

Definately going to be a very good player for us.

Without a doubt TE, but will need to pump alot of iron to become TW's 'other' option in the midfield.

Surely it would be in his training scedule for the summer to pump plenty of iron?

Look at Roachy after last summer.

I've just been watching a DVD of the Brisbane game from this year, and I think that idiot commentator called Meyer "Newman" three times - at least. Did anyone else notice this?

I think everyone would agree who has seen Danny play this season that this kid has a hell of a lot going for him skill, speed ,courage, brain. My question is with a big pre season what sought of impact could he have next year, half season in pocket,Coburg all year, wing all year at RFC,win the rising star,be a 30 plus goalkicker, just intrested in PRE ers thoughts

The games he played in the one's this year will be a great experience for him. Next year it will be up to him how many games he plays. He knows what it takes and having a good preseason anything is possible. Also just wanted to say what a great job terry did of managing our list this year. :clap I dont how many exactly we blooded but there seemed to be a few.

both meyer and tambling look to be talented future 150+ gamers for the club but i still cant stop worrying about them ever bulking up.

Kids that age can fill out pretty quickly and hopefully with the right program Danny can develop enough over the summer to take on a bigger role next year. There is one passage of play in the Carlton game (1st one) worth taking a look at. Meyer collects the ball in heavy traffic and rides a solid bump beautifully and still manages to dish of to advantange. Showed very good natural balance and poise.
