Darksider or realist?

The reality is we are coming out of a decade of list and financial mis management.

Things in the coaching department look better then they have over the past 20 years, While our list has improved over the last two years we are still in the midst of a massive overhaul which isn't even half way done and still has massive issues.

The board still has massive issues of trust with its members and is yet to prove that are able of running a profit without using creative accounting.

Having said that I still feel is if the club is moving in the right direction, albeit far too slowly and with the wrong man at the helm (Mr Concept Sports 2005).

Darksider maybe, realist maybe.

reality n - the state of fact of being real - resemblance to what is real - that which constitutes the real or actual thing as distinguised from that which is merely apparent.

IMO the reality of these young players is that they have been chosen to represent the RFC for season 2006 - the conjectures on this post are what I believe are "merely apparent" Opinions of the the future if you like.

Right now the reality is that these boys have the opportunity to show their individual capabilities at the Elite Level. Should those capabilities measure up and their style of play be what TW and co. require then they will be at the RFC in 2007 - should they be otherwise then "theres the door don't let it hit you on the arse on the way out."

I agree that come years end there will be a turnover of players - hopefully only retirements of older players as they finish their illustrious careers with the 2006 Grand Final win!

I know each and every one of you contributing to this thread come game day will cheer whoever is wearing the black with a yellow sash - for to be otherwise is IMO to be not fair dinkum

fair dinkum colloq - real true genuine

who was it that said all things in life a cyclical?

true scoop,

Ultimately there is no reality, there is only perception. I am just outlining mine.

Blaisee, good on you for having a go but I disagree with most of your assessments.

Deledio - superstar
Raines - beautiful mover who will go on to play 200 games
*smile* - will become the new power kpp of the comp, a player that can play either end of the ground
Roach - outstanding speed will allow him to become a great run with player.
Polo - big heart and great work ethic will allow him to overcome skill deficiencies.
Rodan - back stonger and faster but with new found footy smarts.
Limbach - will dominate Coburg by years end before breaking into the seniors.
Hartigan - will become the premier half back in the comp, the new Chris Johnson
Jackson - the next enforcer in the mould of Archer and M Voss
Krakouer - will confound his critics be leading the comp in tackles and crumbing goals
Hyde - already made it as an outstanding run and carry type, the type Wallace loves
McGuane - will graduate from prospect to player by years end.
Pattison - will become the premier ruckmen/resting forward by 2007
Meyer - silky skills will send the fans in raptures and the opposition green with envy.
Tambling - In 2008 everyone will be arguing whether Deledio or Tambling was the best player taken in the 2005 draft.
Thursfield - already shown he will be a gun, the next Gaspar but can kick
Foley - will prove to be better than Lambert by playing out his 200 game career for the one club.

Future looks good. 8)

Daniel Jackson... has the tools, but has no football nouse, his future will be determined by his ability to understand the game and have a role....At this stage has 1 year to show something so...Unlikely to make it.

Krakouer....has 5 years in the system, still has not changed his body shape...delist

Clever... looks and moves like Jeff Hogg. A beautiful kick lovely on the lead and a nice pair of hands. Cant jump to save his life.

Casserly... lovely skills. great pace...soft as butter

Bono, you've taken the mouthguard out, and really given many the true picture of what it really looks like.  Gee, GM will be hoping for Jackson to get a move in the earlier part of the season, and would hope Kraks steps up as well, beacuse GM is purley responsible for them still having a locker at Punt Road.

As for Clever & Casserly, your analysis is a first to me.  Is that why they were not picked so early in the draft? Mmmmmmmmmmmmm.
I'm interested to read how you come to you conclusion about those two, just for my curiosity sake, because all I've seen from these two are tapes and training sessions.

Great stuff anyway, sipped any chardonnays with the 'inner sanctum' lately? :-X

GPB as we both have been to training and witnessed the same things i am not too concerned bout Cleaver and Cass to be honest they will be alright.
I must pay a bit more attention to Jacko as he has had some posts putting him under the pump, and i must freely admit to not paying much attention to him, cos i have been too busy watching the new kids and the likes of Meyer and Thirsty.

I'm still waiting for Bono to give us how he has come to the conclusion about Cleavage & Cassanova, I'm open from all angles and want to hear his justification.  Without a doubt I want Jacko to make it, and yes he is under the pump, wouldn't you be if you had less than 12 months on your contract.  If memory serves me correct, Miller stole Jackson from under the noses of Brisbane, just lke a thief in the night.  I've heard Miller say, "This kid is gonna make it", so I'll sit back a wait to see if it happens.  Basically, it's just a matter of wait and see.

Craig, it's something like this, when you buy a kilo of mussels and cook them, they don't all open do they?  The unopened ones you gotta throw away, same as our draft picks, we don't expect them all to make it do we.....................or do we? :hihi

Well done JB. We all need views such as yours to brighten our lives.
Are you still on your chair? ;)

Pretty one i have no doubt that not all will kick on its just the way footy goes.

I have seen posts that say the full package is hard to find - - YES it is but you cant have 22 Judds nor do you need 22 Judds, but those who go on must harbour the greater percentage of Traits, skills, and attributes that are requitred to make it and a couple of ours will struggle but thats the case with all clubs.

I dont see anything wrong with culling kids if they are not up to it or do not look likely either, thats the law of the jungle and a fact of professional sport, only the strongest or best survive.

What i do not like and what drives me nuts is players who are proven to be mediocre performers over a number of years that continually avoid the justice of the axe and weve still got plenty of em, thats what really really gets up my goat, and is why weve gone nowhere.

I reckon Limbach, Moore and Roach in particular will all be candidates for the chop at years end if they dont really step it up a gear.

With ya bro  :clap

The Krak Kritics are yet to tell us who will do his tackling job if he goes. They conveniently forget he was our #2 tackler and #4 goalkicker in 2005.

Craig, that's what you call an understatement if ever I've seen one.  I don't expect to see that mentality under Terrence, but you're truely correct in what you're saying.  One that comes to mind is Chaffey.  If TW was at Punt Road 5 years ago, Chaffey would not have achieved Life Member status, I can calmly sit back and know while typing this I have the support of many here and out of here.  Who cares what TW said about Chaffey, that's all he had and without a doubt missed him dearly.  Great guts and determination, but very poor skills, anyway that's how things panned and good luck to him......Fiora is another one, so is Rodan etc. etc.

Gone no where, we'll agree that's the past, going somewhere we'll all agree, it'll be a slow and patient process, that's why the likes of the Patto's, Raines, Roaches, Meyers are gradually being eased in.  But on the other hand the reason why Polo wasn't eased in is another topic. :-X

I really rate Clever.

My opinion is derived from watching the boys train, play and talking to people who know ;)

No chardonnays for a while, but have played a little squash ;)

Courage is the issue here. Most recruiting managers had this ( his lack of courage ) as Travis's number one deficiency.
I did talk to Francis Jackson himself, and he told me on draft day that if Travis was harder at the ball he would have been a 1st round draft pick.

Please do not see my comments as personal critisisms of any of the players. I think we have a right to an opinion as members. Furthermore I think we need to be a little more realistic as to the playing ability of the group, and be more aware of their deficiencies.

Do I agree with the drafting of Casserly?
Yes Do I think he will make it? Dunno.
Is there a chance he could be a good player for the club? Yes.
Am I blind to his deficiencies? No
Is he capable of becoming Leon Cameron like in his playing style? Yes, but....he is just as likely ....at this stage...to become one of the Lonie sisters,
Thats reality people . :-\
Calling him soft as butter reality hey?
Who knows why he lacks courage.Perhaps its to do with the way he came through the ranks as a kid, lack of confidence? At least give him a chance amongst the elite first before degrading the kid.Thats all im saying.

Your call blousie, you obviously haven't heard that encouragement is the mother of motivation.

I'll place my trust in Terry and his off-siders, the rest will take care of itself.

Wow. Pretty hard there Blaisee.

Of the 18 you make the call on only 5 are good enough. Isn't it too early to make these comments, when the season has not even started??

That conversion rate is in line with history for the competition. RFC would do well to remember it and turn the kids that over that aren't making so it gets a look at more players.

K Moore is a case in point the odds of him coming from nowhere as a 23yo to become a 100 gamer are very long. Every year he stays keeps one maybe two extra kids out of the system. Nothing against the lad its just that keeping him is not playing the percentages.

Actually Casserley is softer than butter. I saw him having breakfast in a Richmond cafe the other week during the heatwave, and the butter had been kept in the fridge. Cass had trouble spreading it on his toast.
