Surely he must have just completely mis-judged where he and the ball was in relation to the boundary/goal line because as you say that was just plain embarrassing ?

Yeah, I was sitting up in the top level down that end and it did seem he thought it was going through the goal line or boundary line and didn't realise until too late that it wasn't. Simple misjudgment, not shirking the contest or anything like what Ian4 suggested.

I think Johnno thought McGuane was and should have come over the top and attacked the ball front on.
But for what ever reason McGuane made no effort to get to the ball.
Johnno was in perfect front and centre crumbing mode but the crumb never happened.
Misunderstanding between two guys. That simple.
