Dawn breaks at the Richmond footy club?

There was a quote in the Herald-Sun recently I liked:
"...there are now seven winners each week and the side that stuffed up against Richmond"

Is it just me or have streams of light started to break through the unrelenting darkness that has been Richmond for a number of years now. As much as I treacherously wanted as many good players as I could get out of this year's draft, we don't even look like getting close to the bottom four which is where I mentally had us being this year.

We seemed to have turned a corner on and off the field and really only widespread injuries seem to be able to stop us from finishing mid-table which considering the age and experience of so many of our players (given we are "playing the kids"), appears remarkable to me. IMO we seem to have "bottomed out" already which is more than half a season in front of when I thought we would "bottom out".

Long way to go yet.

Before the sun starts to shine, we need:
1. A premiership CHF
2. A premiership Centre
3. A premiership FB/CHB.

Get those, then we're talking.

You see the same old tripe written year after year come end of may.
If you finally see these articles in September then you should be pleased.

Intrestingy point you bring up Phanto
Last years premiers
Centre Kirk/Bolton very good plyers But
Full back  Barry/C Bolton  CHB  Roberts-Thompson

I dont disagree, but i think the nucleus of the midfield we have already formed, that our on ball brigade aint that far away,Lids been the Star
Full Back I think/hope Wil will be the answer to this
CHB Would like to think we could produce one of atleast LRT standard in the not too distant future
CHF I think we have a bit of the Chicago Bulls 3 headed monster thing starting to happen with Cleve,Pato and Jay with of course Richo there for a while yet.
Would be great though to gain a couple more outstanding big fellas

So are there any on our list who could fill those positions or do you feel we still need to find them through draft/trade?

As always good to see your sunny face as well, however I just can't see us losing all our four June games.  That is a change.  Also the improvement in some of the young players has been outstanding and is why I believe that we will finish mid-table rather than sock it out for the spoon which is where I thought we would be.

The point of this thread Diggler is to state that with our team we should have no right to vie for the eight, but we are and we look like breaking a string of nasty hoodoos in the process.  I am not dreaming about a GF and I don't even think we will make the finals (percentage is too low) but we are doing far better than I felt we had a right to expect.

No trouble Rolls Royce :hihi I think we still have to draft well but I doubt we can get that out an out star via trading nowdays

at the start of the yr i thought bottom 2 but some of the kids are stepping up a little so ihave had to revise it to bottom 6.

At this point, it's not for certain because our juniors haven't sufficiently developed.
But I don't think that we've drafted any "premiership-grade players in those positions of our picks from 2003-2005.
I'd say through the draft. We need very talented juniors who will be with the club for 10 years or more.
Mind you, in the next few years, if the boys come into a window of opportunity, then the club may need to trade to get a ready-made player to fill a gap.

Many examples in the Tigers' great history.

1971 - trading an aging Barrot for Ian Stewart.
1974 - trading for Robbie McGhie, Gareth Andrews and David Thorpe.

Of course, tight control is needed otherwise you end up with:
1976 - Roberts, Jackson & Teasdale for Pitura.

My guess this year, is that in the draft we could pick up either a premiership CHF or Centre with our first pick, and a possibly another "A-B class" KPP with our 2nd pick.
Next year we can get the type of player that we missed out on this year...and so on.

A fair assessment I would think. I still suspect we will miss the eight, but the momentum will definitely be upwards. I would be disappointed if we didn't play finals in 2007 even if it was from 8th spot.

Oh my God, Prozac does work if you take it as prescribed. ;D

No new dawn but the wheel has turned and the ox moves slowly across the this big brown, sunburnt land.

Cliche, cliche, cliche.

It just means we are slowly getting better. ;)
