PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Chris and Dean both have interviews on sport927.com.au this week.  I'll post a synopsis for the benefit of thsoe without sound.

Dean Polo audio
  • Dean went into the game hoping to get a win and to play well as well was a real bonus and very exciting
  • It definitely wasn't easy.  A massive step up from VFL level
  • Had a lot of tips from coaches saying it's not that different from VFL and to do his thing, it's why he was selected.  He just went out there to try and do what he usually does add do his best
  • Had lots of nerves but the more he got the ball the more confident he was and the more he got into the game
  • It was pretty nerveracking to start with but as the game got going it was good
  • He ran forward from down back a couple of times and luckily his man didn't follow him and so he got some space and was able to kick a couple of goals.
  • He was told he was playing when it was announced at the function on Tuesday night and he had to get up in front of everybody.  His heart was pumping and he was really excited.  A real thrill to be finally making his debut
  • Last year was a big year for Richmond with 7-8 picks.  A lot debuted but he didn't get his chance.  Kept working hard at Coburg till his turn came

Chris Newman audio

  • Dreamtime is a big game and the type we want to win. Great to see the crowd get behind it and hopefully a few years down the track it will keep getting bigger and bigger.
  • Definitely crossed his mind we might have blown it in the last 1/4 when Lucas kicked a couple of goals and got the crowd behind them.
  • Great effort by the boys to hold it together and not lose their cool and to be able to claw our way back
  • Wasn't concerned about contract situation but great to have it out of the way.  Happy to sign at the same time as Brett and let him get all the headlines he wants.  Happy to stay in the background
  • Backline really starting to click and a few young guys starting to step up.  Raines has had a terriffic year back there and gets on top of his opponent as wel as providing real drive
  • Joel's been terriffic.  Doesn't know how he gets so much of the ball each week.
  • Kella and Hall are doing the job and Darren Gaspar will be back in this week  :clap
  • Things are going ok down back and they have to be solid each week because they know they're an important part of the team.
  • His role changes from week to week, he doesn't usually know what he'll be doing till Tues or Weds prior to the game.  Has played mostly in the backline trying to be offensive as well as defensive
  • Always knew Dean Polo would be a solid player for us but you don't expect someone making their debut to come out and have 28 possessions and kick 3 goals.  A dream start but he's been playing really good footy.  One of those guys who works really hard on his game and his deficiencies and was well overdue to get a game. They're all rapt for him because he really deserves it.
  • Was offered #1 jumper.  It's a number he wore through his juniours and he grew up supporting Carlton with Stephen Silvagni his favourite palyer.  Didn't want to step on anyone's toes with Hilts gone but was offered it and it was too good to pass up
  • They realise Sydney are back to their best football and that William's 300th will give them extra boost.  Holding it together this week will be one of our biggest challenges.
