in light of discussion on our changes v Geelong there is much conjecture regarding our defensive choices. many believe Sarge should be in the side with McGuane or Polak making way, others don't.

what do you think?

purely looking at the defensive lineup i feel Polak should make way.

Polak if you're talking about defense only, cause I don't think he should line up down there.

Schulz should never have been dropped after his efforts at Coburg, and either Polak should have stayed out or he could have come in for Jordie, who's defensive efforts were insipid.

We've absolutely got a defensive dilemma!! Schulz seems better suited down back but we've got McGuane, Moore and Thursfield (none of whom can play forward).

Schulz can play forward, but it has to be at FF. This is fine when Richo's up on the wing, but when he's resting at FF, Schulz and Richo can't seem to work in the same area.

That said, I'd prefer to keep Schulz in the team and play him as required - most likely at FF when Richo starts on the wing and then at CHF when Richo rests. He just has to persevere in that position and work harder at providing alink option when the ball comes off half back. Schulz didn't do this against the Saints, hence the axe (albeit unfair) for the Geelong game.

IMO, I'd only have Polak in the side as a second ruck option instead of Pattision. If Pattison performs, then there's no room for Polak and perhaps a trade at the end of the year, assuming continued development from Moore/McGuane (Thursfield's a given long term player). Polak is not up to it as a CHB and is limited to what he can do in the foward line. Anyawy, we'll see what happens with him over the next 15 weeks or so.

As a related subject, I support Bowden coming back into the team to play the floating half forward role. He did this very well early in his career until he broke his collarbone against West Coast. As long as the defensive side of his game picks up, he'll be ok in this position.

McGuane is by far the worst of the mentioned players, he is often capable in defense but his foot skills let him down time and time again. He leaves a lot to be desired. :(
