Thanks for answering my question with another question - real progress made there.

I answered it:

For the last time, I believe Deledio's comment, however 'tongue in cheek' it was, shows that some of the players may be reluctant to play the aggressive, hard running, positive style of play that we would all like to see, and one that would get them a win at the Cattery, due to the possibility they will get smashed if they do.

They may go in with a damage limitation mentality, however subconscious it may be. I'm hoping that TW and the coaching staff are instilling a mindset where the players have the confidence to back themselves, without fear of recrimination if they don't succeed. Young players may not be able to do this.

I'm just concerned about their mindset for the weekend's game. Do we chase the game or limit what we get beaten by...? Deledio's tongue in cheek comment made me think the players might be thinking the latter. There was nothing directed at Deledio directly - only toward "player negativity" which comes from 1 win and 1 draw and a 157 point thrashing the last time the two teams met. My main point was I hope the coaching staff are telling them not to worry about getting thumped and to go out and play positive footy, irrespective of the outcome.

I like the comment - aim low and achieve your goals, beats aiming too high and not reaching. Works for me.

Year over then - we got our 1 win.

I was satisfied after the draw.

Re: Deledio Displays Typical Richmond Mindset

Deledio should have said 'I think we will win by 20 goals'. Then everyone here at PRE would be happy. I'll speak to his manager.

Re: Deledio Displays Typical Richmond Mindset

I read that comment and thought ha bloody smart a*se thanks for giving us a minor victory to aim for :hihi

Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Weren't there a few people earlier on in the year who were complaining that Lids had put too much of a positive spin in an article? Clearly he took those comments on board and decided to go with something different. How bout we don't let anyone from the club say anything at all just incase it's perceived the wrong way :help

Re: Deledio Displays Typical Richmond Mindset

I can't believe you're ignoring the part of the article that truly shows Deledio's mindset.

The bloke is trying his arse off to get back for a game against the team that handed us the worst defeat I've ever seen. And that's despite breaking his hand badly enough a couple of weeks ago that it required surgery to fix.

There's a pattern developing here. Richo playing with a fractured skull. Newman playing with broken ribs and a puntured lung. Dare I say it, even Kane Johnson playing one-handed for at least the first half of the season. And now Deledio, one of the younger players on our list, looks at their example and says "me too".

Deledio is starting to show some quality.

Anyone who thinks he's planning on going out there on the weekend with the intention of accepting anything other than a win for the yellow and black, hang your heads in shame.

i hope it rains on the weekend

would really like to see the guys slog it out for a day instead of the usual run and carry soft stuff we have been playing

might also keep the margin down ;D

Geelong
Wednesday
Partly cloudy with a shower or two. Fresh to strong northwesterly wind.
Max 16
Precis: Shower or two. Windy.

Thursday Shower or two increasing later. . Min 7 Max 15
Friday A few showers. Min 6 Max 13
Saturday Showers. Min 5 Max 13

It looks like you might get your wish. A slog in the showers at Skilled. Dare I say it, perfect conditions for someone to have a krakouer of a game? :-[

It seems Terry's answered my question.

And if Lids came out and said yeah we will get revenge or we will win some would probably be saying what an idiot with our form lately...

You just never know who will win on any given day and I hope our turn (with great efforts by the boys) to win will come sooner rather than later.

Everyone is really trying hard to find something else to bag the club/players for.

Yes, my motivation for checking PRE each day is to see who is target practice for the day. And waddaya know...today its Deledio ::)

I followed the link you had on the start of this thread and the comment you quoted wasn't there. It just talks about his possible come back and that "he would love the opportunity to play against the Cats this weekend after they were trounced by them in round six."
Has someone edited the original story as a result of the furore at PRE on this thread?

My thoughts exactly.

It's been changed in the past hour. I read the story about an hour ago and the comment was there, right at the bottom of the page. Now it's gone.

Further proof that PRE must be the home page for many people at RFC.

Interesting that they would remove the comment. I thought it displayed a refreshing honesty and humour tbh, but the backlash by some people demonstrates why sportspeople rarely stray from mouthing bland cliches.

Tongue in cheek, maybe. But I have no doubt there's some truth in my feeling they're just hoping they don't get absolutely smashed. There's no way they can play a positive style of football with that mindset.

And that concerns me.

Well, picture how the players feel being the laughing stock of australias footy fans. He is just telling the bad apples what they want to hear. I have no questions of deledios commitment to rfc or winning for that matter. Stranger things have happened, but the majority would agree rfc have less than 1 percent chance of winning this week.

If he plays Lids is one guy who wants to perform well against Geelong, considering how he was well beaten the last time and the bagging he consequently copped here because of it. If he can even get on the park then I'll applaud him, that hand should have kept him out for the rest of the season.
