But seriously guys and gals.

Does anyone else think that Lids has put on a bit too much weight in a short time?

I love the way he plays footy but he just doesn't look as sharp as he was last year.

All the young guys are going to make mistakes while they gain experience and class but he just looks a bit out of sorts this year and I think he has bulked up a bit too much and hasn't been able to give himself the time to steady for that fraction of a millisecond to be able to deliver accurately.

Give us a break. Bulked up too quickly, I've heard it all now

How perfect must he be ? :rofl :rofl

Lids is sensational but I think he has bulked up too much too quickly and I think it shows that he is out of his normal weight range.

Ackermanis suffered by putting on too much weight a few years ago. He regained his great form when he returned to his normal playing weight.

At today's footy pace every millisecond equals a second or two from 'years gone by' footy and when you are being pressured by some of the quickest guys ever to play footy something as simple as a couple of kilos of muscle above your normal playing weight will make a difference.

How perfect should LIDS be?

As perfect as he can be.

And for Ian4 my comments are more a question to see if my observation is realistic or not. I'm sure that as LIDS gets used to the extra bulk and effort required to lug it around he will improve even further than his good form so far in his career. He is a superstar on the rise and the fact that he still has lots to learn and improvement to make is not a criticism.

No your observation is totally unrealisitic. It is one thing to be well over the weight you should be but it is another to be a 17 or 18 year old putting on some much needed weight to be physically stronger. Lids should be putting on weight every year, and that will make him a stronger and more robust player. More muscle equals more power and can actually help speed, I can see nothing so far to indicate that he has become slower.

Cheers

Lids had 22 possessions and 9 marks in rd 1 and 18 poss 4 marks in rd 2, well above 15.8 avg poss last year, and he has been playing off the half-back line. For an 18 yo he's one of a very few to perform so well at that age, and still looks super quick to me. Listed at 89kg for 188cm, so has bulked up well, but cant see it making him slower, although I do know where you're coming from.

Cheers

He definitely looked sluggish on Friday night. It is nothing to be worried about. Explosive players can be very one paced and lethargic when 2nd up for the season. I don't think it has anything to do with putting on too much weight.

The other important point that hasn't yet been raised is that most players start the year a fair bit more bulked up than what they ended it last year. Especially the younger players.

But much less weight work is done during the season compared to the pre-season, and thus by the middle and towards the end of the season, most players lose a bit of weight.

Friday was not one of his better outings. Serviceable but just turned the ball over by hand a couple of times.
He is not a footballing god yet and is still learning. I do like him coming off half forward as our target for the players running out of the back line. Him and Patrick Bowden as dual CHF is a idea for Subi becuase it is so big.
He is going along fine at the minute. Not one of major concerns.

Not a bad idea putting him at Half Foward at Subi, but I still thing he should be in the guts as much as possible
