Demetriou- the 1.4 million $ man

but not 1 club has sunk since he has jumped on board

That is no real measure of his ability. The AFL could have saved Fitzroy. At the time, when the club wanted help, the AFL sent a torpedo instead.

while i accept vlad has done a great job over the years, i do think it's time for him to move on. i think the guy is getting a little senile with his idea of 2 new licences in non-afl markets within 4 years. well he's either senile or suffering from alziemers (as far as a few months ago he wanted a team relocated to gold coast in 2015 and west sydney in 2020)

Cannot stand Gomez. Arrogant, self-serving tool. The TV rights were basically an auction b/w the networks that sorted itself out - Gomez does not derserve any kudos for that. He should be judged on other criteria and IMHO has fallen way short. He is running the AFL like a corporation that has its overriding goal of revenue maximisation.

If he charges ahead with this Gold Coast & West Sydney project then it is alarm bells for the RFC. They will do all they can do make those teams super-competitive at the expense of strugglers like ourselves. Sydney & Brisbane have won 4 flags b/w them already this century on the back of way too generous concessions.

If he loses the heartland that is Victoria then he will be remembered as being too smart by half.

BTW - Miller apparently said on SEN that he practically demanded that West Coast deal wit Cartoon on the Judd deal because of free-agency concerns. If that is the case then it is a disgrace and he should be removed immediately.

Agree. the KPIs driving his wage north are associated with increasing revenue, ratings, expanding markets, etc. You can't run a sport entirely like a business, because at the end of the day it is the regular punters and the heritage of the game that is more critical than anything that you can measure with statistics

I don't really have an issue with the amount of pay, but I'm concerned that he will perceive it as a reward of his successful pursuit of measures that you measure with a $ sign or a %. It is an endorsement of the introduction of 2 more teams, and it will be subsidised at the cost of clubs on the margins. This is going to hurt North, Melbourne, the Bulldogs and the RFC and this is not right

Just imagine Anderson and co running the game without Vlad standing on their throats.
No-one would even know at which grounds the games were being played.
The talent at the top seems to be wafer thin so Demetriou needs to be presuaded to stay a bit longer, regardless of the financial cost.

If the talent at the top is 'wafer thin' as you say, isn't that an indictment on Demetriou? Is he surrounding himself with fools deliberately so that he looks a star in comparison? The man is drunk with power ... all his posturing about Roos offhanded comment during a NAB game when Carlton made it patently obvious they were tanking last season demonstrates to me that Demetriou is a coward...he fights the little battles but doesn't have the bottle to take on the big stuff. Just look at the drugs in afl debacles of the last few years. I have absolutely no respect for Demetriou, the man is a megalomaniac.

Demetriou doing OK for an ex-land salesman. I don't have aproblem with a 41mill plus packet for what the job entails, although I thinkthey could get far better than Demetriou for that money.

Corporate CEO payments are obsene. It has ballooned over recent years and I am sure as the economies turn sour they will not be sustainable. The worst though are the golden handshakes that CEOs often get for failing miserably as they are walked out the front doors.

In the grand scheme of things (CEO payments and the like) the money doesn't sound obscene but I wonder if the chief of the NFL is paid more than the highest paid player? Food for thought.

And yes it does beggar belief that Anderson got the job in the first place let alone continues in it! If Fonzi and the gang think North has been beleaguered by poor management heres a mirror Fonze, put this on the other side of the boardroom table and tell me what you see?

Nice bit of well deserved slipper Go Toigs.
Dimi's got the same effect on me as a dodgy souvlaki after a big night on the turps.

I hear Vlad insisted on the $1.4m so that he would be higher paid than Ben Buckly at FFA (on $1.2m).

Yup he did more to advance the game than Vlad has ever done.

A club not sinking? Not for want of trying in the case of North. Elements of the game itself has probably developed in the wrong direction since he took over: the umpiring and tribunal in particular.

I think you'll find participation was on a steady rise since before he took over. As for revenue they were gifted that by Kerry Packer as a dying gift nothing to do with Vlad, it was a *smile* you to 7 and 10. As for the management team he has demonstrably brought on people with the wrong sort of experience.

Umpiring and the tribunal have always been a hot topic and the want for change has been evident for a long time now. No one got it right. Do you want to go back to the way it was a decade ago? I dont think so, atleast there is a system in place. As far as umpiring goes, the hands in the back "rule" is what pisses me off, its not necessarily the decisions being made, but the rules.

How does Kerry Packer gift you revenue in all KPI's?

If he bought the people with the wrong experience and was as bad as many of you are making him out to be, he would not be on the 1.4 million dollar salary. It has been rightfully said that he is underpaid for the amount of growth he has bought to the game.

If Wayne Jackson was as good as Demetriou, he would have been braking these records by the same margins. He wasnt and thats what counts. No one is going to give you a payrise because your a good bloke. Demetriou might be a good bloke, Jackson might be a prick, no one knows who they are. Every winner has a bit of arrogance in their character.
