Jones is finished as a footballer. Only a basketcase like Melbourne or Gold Coast would sign him now.

And he can get ****** for shaping up to punch Chimpy a few years back. Towner putting his shoulder through Jones' spleen is one of the more satisfying things I've seen on a footy field.

jeez if thats true, they may as well shut up shop the goldy. Jones is a plastic leader, one of their many problems. You'd think, maybe, they'd target someone who is a proven leader and performer in big games over a long period? A Selwood? A Kennedy (sydney)? A third-rate leader will just maintain the status quo, or maybe lift them from fourth to third rate.
maybe fold coast should go the quinella and go for both brothers.

No need to H, Roosy's pretty happy with his bank balance now.
No doubt.

But also, to be fair, Roos did leave them with a solid football management team and a reasonable list. I think they were an even greater rabble when he joined them than we were in the few years prior. I think he did a good job. Not his fault that a few eejuts have stuffed up the club. I think it all started with the "refusal to go on a pre-season camp" a few years ago, after Roos has left.

That camp debacle tells you everything you need to know about that playing group. When the going gets tough, stuff it, too hard, I quit.

Reckon you nailed it a while back when you castigated their supporters (and I imagine a lot of their board) for cheering the McMahon goal and singing the tigers theme song. You identified very early a club and supporter base with entirely the wrong attitude.

It wasn't that hard to see what that club's culture was. What was worse were the supposed supporters/members of RFC who called our club stupid for not following #lolDemon's lead. We were the stupid ones apparently. Tanking was the only way to get to the top. I cant think of a worse way to destroy a club than foster and promote a losing culture.

Didn't work too bad for the Hawks and Pies. I think there's more to it than losing games.
It's about developing the kids you draft via tanking. Dees didn't do it. Pies did.

Demons make offer to Magpie Jamie Elliott
By Jake Niall
September 12, 2019 — 4.21pm

Melbourne have made an offer to Collingwood free agent and highly talented forward Jamie Elliott.
AFL industry sources have confirmed that the Demons, who have held an interest in Elliott for some time, have tabled an offer with the dynamic Magpie who, having overcome his hamstring problems, has made an impressive return to form in the past month.

Collingwood have a two-year offer on the table for Elliott and have been optimistic throughout the season that he will stay. There has never been any suggestion that he wants out of the club, but the Melbourne offer, of at least two years, is almost certain to exceed Collingwood's current one given the salary cap constraints at the Pies.
As an unrestricted free agent, Elliott could cross to Melbourne – or any other club – without the Magpies having the right to match the offer. They would receive a compensation draft pick in return, depending on the size of the contract accepted.

In addition to their pursuit of Elliott, the Demons are poised to land another free agent in Greater Western Sydney's Adam Tomlinson, who is favoured to sign with Melbourne on a long-term deal. They also have shown interest in Fremantle's Ed Langdon.

Elliott, who turned 27 in late August, has played 15 games this season and booted 25 goals after failing to take the field in 2018 following a series of hamstring problems. He had missed the entire 2016 season too, due to injury, but was a strong performer in 2017.
He has rediscovered his explosive best in recent weeks, booting 10 goals in the past three matches, with a five-goal best-on-ground effort against Adelaide, 3.4 against Essendon and then 2.1 in an influential 18-disposal performance in the qualifying final against the Cats.
The Magpies had signed Elliott to a one-year deal at the end of last year. Elliott had been offered a two-year deal with incentives but opted for only a one-year terms that obviously would meant backing himself to get back and perform.

Collingwood faces some list management challenges looming next year when Brodie Grundy is coming out of contract as a restricted free agent and will likely be seeking a significant long-term deal, while key pair Jordan De Goey and Darcy Moore are coming of contract.
Skipper Scott Pendlebury, too, is coming out of contract at the end of 2020 after enjoying an All-Australian season this year.
