Did any RFC footballers visit your school?

Gun English cricketer Derek Randall paid our primary school a visit. He was offering $1.00 to anyone who could claim his wicket. He ended up keeping his dollar. That was the first and only time that I bowled to a test cricketer, great memory.

Tom Hafey came out to my local club last year. Stripped off in the rooms with the boys (looked fitter then most) and then took us for a great session. Spoke about footy being a simple game all that stuff but spoke about the great tigers which i loved. Stood out in the rain and didnt care just loved being apart of it. Inspiring!!!

We had a visit from Steven Mount at my PS in the late seventies. Main attraction, though, was Barry Round from South who looked absolutely huge to us little tackers. All I remember is that Round seemed a great bloke and that he led us in a kicking skills clinic :o Those that remember Barry's kicking would know that's pretty close to the blind leading the blind. Made James Manson look like Bernie Quinlan.

Kevin Sheedy came to our school and gave our year a session, circa 1974.

Most of the boys in our year were involved with a team in Sheedy's just formed Spartan league.

I've run into a few of the boys over the years, some have had the opportunity to speak to Sheedy in recent times. Each one of us reminds him of the Spartan League and our memories. He immediately responds with "You know I put the Spartan League together," and goes on to tell us his recollections.

Some people refer to Ablett as God.
To me, Ablett definitely not, but Sheedy comes bloody close.
sheesh deja vu. sheeds came and watched us play in 76. sheeds spoke to the school footy teams for over 90 minute the impression he left on me is priceless.i have no doubt if i had applied myself i would have played football at the rfc at some level.

Disco Roach used to visit our high school regularly as a sales rep for a sports company (think it was Adidas?). Met him a number of times and still have my thirty year old Duffle coat with Disco's number on the back! Always remember how embarrassed he seemed to be in public.

My PE teacher at the time was well travelled football person Danny Corcoran. Danny was at Richmond for a time as the fitness person, then moved to Melbourne, Essendon and others. Eventually ending up at Athletics Australia?

so what your saying is that if you had been motivated enough you would have made it? Clearly Sheeds' talk didn't do the trick then.

It's a bizarre post F W De Klurtz. Not sure what he is saying?

Does it mean he had the talent but despite the priceless impression Sheeds left on him at school he still couldn’t be arsed? Does he mean it was a negative priceless impression?

Maybe he is implying he didn’t have the talent yet with application he may have played in the U19 2’s. But then what was the priceless impression?

Alternatively maybe Sheedy was such a great speaker all the kids thought if they tried hard they could play for the Tigers, and still do. I presume that is was what he was getting at?

Sheesh, I’m confused?

Had one there all day - Peter McKenna was my grade 5 teacher (and our footy coach) at Fairfield Primary school in 1971. At the time he was bigger than Ben Hur. I'd say 80% of the senior school were Collingwood supporters, but I remained defiant wearing my Richmond jumper to school most days. PS, I must say though, he was a pretty good person.

Best thing that came to my primary school was Lionel Proctor. Anyone remember that guy?

Went to Mt Eliza High we had Tony Free the great man come & visit us to give us the drink drive message could have been a great of the Tigers if not for the injuries was at his prime when they cut him down.
