Did the two "step back" points alter the result?

Don't reckon the maggots helped!

Not much talk about the umps on here today. At the game it felt like we were getting crucified in the first half!

We did in that first Q, 3 goals were attributed to the umps...

The free kick on the quarter time siren to Hudson looked a tad soft. We were aided by Welsh's surprising innaccuracy however.

Not much talk about the umps on here today. At the game it felt like we were getting crucified in the first half! A soft free on defensive wing and then a really soft 50m that measured about 85m from where I was sitting! Soft "in the back" decisions that were only going one way. It felt like we went most of the second quarter without getting a free kick at all, and our boys were tackling better than I've seen in years. Not to mention Moore gets bloody ankle taped and they get a free kick and goal out of it!

IMO it looked like Richo's lower body was over the line, but that he took the ball while it was still in play. Foley DID get off a handball.

And Geich will say he thought they did really well this weekend. Pffft!

Here here. We are the endangered species when it comes to frees. Foley did handball it and his composure to not chew the maggots ear off was commendable.

very soft as was the 50 mtr penanlty against white on the wing which ended up being about a 90 meter penalty...end result goal to the dogs

They seemed to stop paying those soft 50 metre penalties as the game wore on.

That was a shocker alright. As was said in the paper this morning, something along the lines of buying land from that ump.

Yes the two step back points cost us. Never give then anthing.

Free kicks did go against us for most of the game.
But what gets to me is how they change their minds on what a free is form 1st to the 2nd half.

Twice today, schulz and King stepped back through the goals and conceded points.

It was Polak and King who stepped through the goals in the dying stages.

I blame Wallace for the tempo footy that we played with about six minutes to go.
You could see the entire team slow it up & try to ice the clock so the call obviously came from the box.

It wasn't the wrong thing to do, it all just happend about 3 minutes too early.
The team and the coach will hopefully learn from that.

How about Simmonds kicking to our uncontested forward line while Richo and everyone else was back waiting for a kick behind play to milk the clock, which gave them the rebounding goal. All he had to do with 1.20sec on the clock was kick it short to a target not bomb it forward.

Yep, was the wrong option. the thing that did us was the sideways chipping across the Dogs goalmouth that resulted in king rushing it through. We just could not clear the area- there were just no options. As Wallace said, can't afford to chip it around that close to the opposition goal.
