According to the AFL collective bargaining agreement, a career-ending injury suffered in the final year of a contract enables a player to claim a further 50 per cent of the base amount of his contract to offset the sudden and unexpected finish to his time in the game at every level.

I found this interesting given where Kayne was at last year... If delisted - could he have claimed that the knee rec had ended his career?

Yeah i was disapointed by that stat as well. He really should be trying much harder in that area.

I watched him pretty closely on the weekend and I appreciate that he's not the fastest bloke so when the opposition runs off him there's not much he can do about it. He's never going to be able to run guys down from behind.

What made me livid however, was when he was in a congested area, and could have stuck a couple of tackles, but didn't. It was like he wasn't even in the area.

He's always had nice skills and been able to find a kick but soft marshmallows like him and McMahon will always be weak links in a chain that can't be tolerated.

Still gone at years end I'd reckon.

Yep, they'll all end up pushing each other off a big flight of stairs!

I can only hope the big flight of stairs you refer to is off the top of the Rialto Tower. ;D

easy to get goals and touches when you man is up the other end of the field because Pettifer didnt chase him and there happened to be a turnover

Instead of playing to lose and get draft picks, the boys might start playing to get injured. In all seriousness let's hope not, pets looked alright last week so lets hope he has a good second half to the year.

Like you CJ09 (and welcome), I don't care the reputation of yesteryear, if they can turn over a new leaf and become better than servicable, then they'll get my cheer. The key players of tomorrow can begin today!

Re Petts and tackling one of the first thing you lose is confidence in your body after a big injury. I'm actually surprised he is playing as well as he is. So without excusing it I can understand if he is a little gun shy re tackling.

If Pettifer is kicking goals because his opponent is at the other end of the ground, then he's doing a good job.

And he does pretty well to get 22 possies a game from 22 opposition turnovers.

the only thing that saved his career was him doing his knee. Giving him an extra year was cheaper than paying him 50% lump sum of his contract.
