I neither heard or saw anything of the game this arvo and my computer doesn't seem to want me to read the threads but I was wondering about a comment I heard from Akermanis after the game. Did we give up a decent lead by going tempo, as he suggested, or did we play the game out with an attacking style of footy.

I'd be so disappointed if we changed our game and let them back in, same as we did last year against Essendon and lost, and Collingwood I think it was?

(I'll merge this tomorrow if it's already been discussed but I'm desperate to know the story of the game now.)

Yes we played tempo footy it was very similar to the Bombers game. I was yelling at the telly that we would lose if we kept doing it. Hopefully we learn our lesson this time

We tried but we don't have enough experience at the caper to do it successfully. It's a skill that has to be learnt and the more we're in front of teams, the more we'll learn how to control games.

After my initial disappointment at throwing away the lead, I'm now philosophical that at least we're getting into a position to worry about running down the clock.

Yep, the game was our for the keepin' and the guy's went defensive way to early Rosy. Definetely paniced under the pressure of winning. It wasn't like the Bullies did anything special, we just made crucial mistakes at the wrong time, but it's a matter of not having been in that position enough times to know how to finish games out that cost us.

It was a tremendous effort by the team and they deserved to win, feel very sorry for them, they played their hearts out Today and that's what the proudest thing for me was.

We let them back in twice in the last quarter- once when they reduced the lead from 25 points (Edwards and Newman missed shots to put us 5 goals up) and once from 19 points. I have no doubt we shut up shop when we got back out to 19 points and abandoned the style of play that got us into that position. We hardly won a clearance in those last 5 minutes either. It was the Dreamtime game at the G last year all over again. The way the game was going, if there were 5 more minutes on the clock we would have lost by 4 goals.

We played tempo at various stages of the game along with attack. Bulldogs were at one pace all day. I thought we were less predictable than the Bulldogs and set players up for goals better than they did, we really ran out of legs in the end.

Having said that, I was happy with their efforts and hopefully they will learn from the experience.

We dont yet have cool enough heads and our skills under exterme pressure are still questionable for us to play tempo footy

The ability to play tempo footy will come in time, iwth more experience, and hopefully (fingres crossed) imrpoved skills under pressure

Yeah went tempo too early but like Freezer says atleast we're in the position to try it. Same game last year we lost by 118 points so I'm disappointed about throwing away the lead but happy with our effort.

I spoke to one of the players Mum who was in the rooms after the game. said they were all devestated as if they'd lost

heartening performance when doggies could have really blown us out of the water.
signs are the most promising I have seen for some time

Yeah, that also happens to me when I try to type with my fingers crossed. ;D

Might get screemed down for this but for what its worth i recon if we had Bowden in the team on sun we would have won. If anybody knows how to play tempo footy its Joel

From what I saw rosy, the boys were completely stuffed and they seemed forced into tempo by their lack of breath/legs and in the last passage, were unable to man up through the central corridor because they were simply spent i reckon. They ran their guts out ALL day and made the dog look slow. I reckon they just an out of steam and the dogs are a good side and good sides find a way to get out of jail. Its good that they were devastated by the loss. They will learn to win and as they grow and harden and toughen, will run for the whole game.
