Can anyone tell me the difference in a player retiring and being delisted please. For example Tivva is listed by the club as retired and Hydey as delisted. Retired sounds like it's the players decision yet I got the feeling, from Greg saying he is thinking about entering the draft, that he would still be with us if he had a choice.

Your perception of retiring seems correct Rosy.
Retirement is a withdrawal, whereas de-listing implies that it comes from the club.

In Tiva's case, I'd be pretty sure that both he & the club came to an agreement. If, after that, another club showed interest, that would be Tiva's business only if he wished to take it up.

Tiva wouldn't have missed any footy. So a team like StKilda, or North, just may see he filling a hole in their team.

Thanks for the reply Phantom. It's still not clear to me really. I don't understand, if he has an intention of trying to be drafted next season, why Tiv would be listed as retired. To me Hydey, who hasn't indicated that interest, is the one who has retired yet he's mentioned as delisted. Not to worry...the different terminology for each player just interested me.

I think the real difference is 'honour'.

The other not so small difference is whether there was any unfulfilled contract. Remember the 'Mal-practice', for memory he retired with residual contract. It was agreed by both parties to terminate the contract when he announced he wanted to retire (and couldn't do what he wanted to do on Papua). The mistake Brisbane made was not insisting on some sort of Restrictive Covenant or non-competition clause. Hence he was free to go to Essendon.

I'd imagine that RFC wouldn't be overly concerned about Tivva going elsewhere. ;)

Be facinated to know if the Nathan Ablett has a Restrictive Coverant though.......... If a player can achieve retirement without a Restrictive Covenant it becomes backdoor Free Agency. Anyone know more on this?
