Can anybody out there on Punt Road provide us mere supporters with some statistical imformation on Richmond compared to other clubs on directional ball movement stats?

What do I mean by directional ball movement?

Quite simply, the direction the ball travels when Richmond players have clear possession of the football! Forwards, backwards, sideways left, sideways right etc etc.

I would like to know the percentages of the following and then have comparisons of other clubs to assess our own movement performances.

Forward movement %

Backward movement %

Sideways left movement %

Sideways right movement %

In business, a lot of industries have "best practices" which use percentage comparisons to judge your overall performance. Best practice gives you a target or measure comparing you to your peers, competition or colleagues.

What is the AFL "best practice" % for ball movement?

What is the AFL "best practice" for other key areas?

I have noticed for quite some time that our players continually have to handball or kick backwards or sideways to make space to move forward.

Why not just play in straight lines?
Does moving sideways and backward work or does it create more turnovers?
Why do we play this style of football?
Do other clubs play this style too?

There are so many questions that could be answered by these percentages or a graph.

When you look at our game style compared to say Collingwood or Geelong we seem so very amateur.

I would like to know if there is a graph already out there some where?
Is there some sort of ball tracking system that could tell us how we compare to other sides in the competition? Has somebody already got these stats available?
Does the RFC have these stats?
If so how do we compare?

We seem so complicated and error riddled compared to other clubs I'm honestly wondering what effect our movement of the ball has on the following?

1) Movement before goal scoring.

2) Clearance movement.

3) Back line movement.

4) Forward line movement.

5) Centre square movement.

6) Scoring.

7) Errors/turnovers.

8) Ladder percentage.

9) Injuries.

10) And most importantly Win loss ratio.

etc etc etc

There is method to my madness, can anybody help?

Furthermore from very early this morning

Could we use these stats for individual player assessments?

Could these stats assist us against opposition sides by knowing their movement patterns or the movement patterns of particular players or set plays?

Getting even deeper, are sides like Hawthorn already using this type of technology hence their adaptable rolling zones? MAYBE RFC SHOULD FIND OUT!

Is that why Hawthorn had a hidden camera at the end of the ground? Research!

Would this technology give us a better understanding of the quality of our players and in particular our COACH!

IS RICHMOND UP TO DATE WITH TECHNOLOGY?

I'm asking for a lot of questions to be answered I know. But a lot of questions need to be asked about the people running are football department or the people and coaching our side particulary when they are being paid truck loads of money$$$$$ and don't seem to be performing.

The only stats that matter are how to score goals and how to stop them.
The rest you can read into them what you like, in hindsight.
