Do we have the worst midfield in the league?

and if I see another player 'coral' an opposition player (which gives them time to sum up the situation), instead of going in and tackling him and putting him under pressure, I'll jump the bloody fence and tackle him myself!!!  >:(

Here, here, who's teaching them to do this?   Ridiculous at this level of footy, give them time and they'll punish you.

Cheers

Really , can someone please explain the thinking behind this? It drives me crazy to see our players consistantly standing 5 meters off the opposition player with the ball, and not attacking them.

On the midfield, they just look so S - L - O - W... :sleeping

Yep - the worst. Johnson, Tuck, Coughlan - the 3 core midfielders, with Tivendale, Hyde, Krakour, and Rodan as support cast would have to be the slowest, most unskilled, dumbest engine in the entire league - easy.

This is where our problem lies and we need another 7-8 classy players to come through and replace them. Only Deledio has shown enough that he will be good enough to do so. Need to do some serious recruiting.

Easy targets after last night, I know, rarely have I seen a more inept performance by a Richmond midfield.

It did however cause me to try and think of a current AFL side with a worse midfield. Our experienced mids, Cogs, Tuck, Jonno, and the less so, Hyde, etc. all have glaring deficiencies, mostly in their lack of pace and average to poor skills.

We can't really count Browny at the moment, although when he is back to full speed his class will be desperately needed, and the younger brigade like Lids, and Tambling are only mids in the occasional rotation.

Our starting midfield is really quiet tragic and I struggle to think of a side that is worse off. Carlton are obviously pretty bad, but with Kouta and Nick Stevens, have a big edge in class.

I don't rate freos mids in the elite class, disposal is OK but with guys like Bell and Haselby they lack pace, but weight of possessions gets them through.

Help me out here, are we really that bad??  :-\

Forget the midfield Linus we have the worst list in the AFL for mine now after Carltons and Hawthorns purges, at least they had the sense to clean out properly and get quality kids.

Believe it or not, this was not a darksiders comment, or one born of the frustration of Friday night, it was a legitimate question and the fact that there was no quick or simple answer (sorry Phantom, Carlton ruined that theory yesterday) means it must have some element of truth.

This is something obviously Terry is in touch with since he has used all of our high draft picks on pacy, midfield types. And those that complain about the drafting of Tambling have to realise that whether or not he works out, he was certainly the direction the coaching staff have to pursue given the lack of quality in the Tigers midfield.

It does however beg the question of whether the Tigers can ever be competetive with Kane, Cogs, Hyde, Tuck, and some of the other good ordinary footballers in the midfield.

For all the bagging he cops, if you have a close look at the first half of Friday nights game (something I tried yesterday minus the Jim Beam) the only player looking clean in his possession and like he could compete with the Dogs was Krak!!

Perhaps Terry needs to fast track some of these younger, faster players, because I believe if we persist with the lack of quality players in the middle we will continue to get smashed by the better teams.

Tigers have the worst midfield in the league by far....slow and no brains. There set ups and stoppages look like car crashes with the system they currently use.

the problem with our midfield set up is that they are all similar types

cogs, tuck, johnson, foley - all slow in and under types

only 1 should play in the middle at 1 time

cogs should be in the middle
tuck at hff
johnson at hbf

add - hyde, roden, tivendale, - soft, lack footskills and dumb and things are looking ordinary

its time for tuck, lids and newman
with cogs, johnson & foley rotating with tuck

we just need to find some quality speed to rotate with lids
