Do we place Newman as trade bait

Very unusual, to lose a skipper. I think the club would prefer to avoid the public scrutiny that would necessarily follow, especially given the circumstances of the Wallace departure.

If he was to go I wouldn't mind the footy dept having a look at Hampson, who faces plenty of internal competition at Carlton.

I would be mighty surprised if the club put itself under the scrutiny of getting rid of a coach and captain in the same year. Not what we need.

yes but both Colbert and Judd wanted out (against their clubs wishes).

Somehow, for a club to trade its captain does't fit comfortably with me and would reflect poorly on both parties. Just a personal view
Colbert wanted out because the Cats senior players had no respect for him.
Judd was only captain at Wet Coke because Cuz was running off the rails and they desperately wanted Juddy to stay.
Hoggy to Fitzroy was the last deal that crippled the Roys. Their players were like rats leaving a sinking ship and Hoggy's back was stuffed. We gave the Roys crap purely to salve a guilty conscience.
There's reasons you appoint certain people as captain of your club and it's not so you can get a better option when you trade them.

Thought he set a good example today. Played tight on Betts and kept him to one while scoring a good goal himself. Got KO'd but returned to the field shortly after.

Seems to be one of those characters integral to the fabric of a footy club. Would be surprised if he was put on the market.

Some people seem to think it necessary to exorcise all players who've been at the club for more than a handful of years and are thus 'contaminated'.

Well said Guv.
