I don't know if it's been reported in the media yet, but the Docklands surface is going to be completely ripped out after the last game and redone.

When they built the sand base originally they added bits of plastic so it wouldn't compound too much.

They now think this could be the cause of a lot of troubles there.

An option is to mix the sand with polystyrene like they do in yankeeland.

There could be some massive court cases if the honchos ever actually admitted that the original surface was faulty.

HGTurf have only done patch up jobs with the grass since they took over from Strathayr, so hopefully now they are doing a complete surface it should be a lot more even and cause less injuries.

It's scheduled to be ripped apart and redone ready for the world cup rugby game.

Apparently in Ireland they use a surface simular [hope thats how its spelt] to the usa, for their gaelic football.
It was used in the international series and the players thought it was pretty good.

I've heard that at Telstra Dome, they actually replace the turf every month.

It looks like a patch work quilt most of the time.

Don't know why the AFL hasnt taken action over the condition of the playing surface.

We know the owners of HGTurf and the guys who work for them. The grass is only replaced in parts during the season so it's never even.

As soon as the last game is over they are ripping the surface and subsurface up and replacing the lot. The sub surface has been there since it was originally built.

I reckon the grass in my backyard is better than turf on the Telstra Dome.

I remember years ago, VFL Park copped heaps over the condition on the playing surface. However, in the end it was on of the best playing surfaces around.

Why didnt they just transfer the turf from one ground to the other when VFL / AFL park closed ?

Can't be as bad as Suncorp Stadium up here. When they played the first game there you could see the sand flying in the air, in clumps on the ground - its was compared to playing in a sandpit.
