Does 2007 = 1995 ?

After finishing with 10 wins last year, and 11 (or maybe 12) wins this year, it seems to resemble the same way a new coach came in to our club and cleaned it out in 1993. When Northey joined us in 1993, we finished second last, ninth in 1994 and then into the finals for 1995.

This pattern looks a bit similar nowadays with TW cleaning out the club from 2005 and finishing off these 2 seasons in mid-position on the ladder. From what I see, next year should be or MUST BE a finals finish for us otherwise it will look like a failure.

The Buldogs have done it and now it's time we do it and hopefully in a consistent manner.

It amazes me on how we have finished near mid table most of the time in the last 22 years and yet clubs finishing under us have made the finals the year after.

It seems reasonable to predict some finals action next year, but we've learned not to expect too much as Tiger supporters. TW said recently that we'd be making "about 6" changes, and that our list would likely be younger than this year's; perhaps a year of treading water might be necessary. Brisbane had 4 Rising Star nominees last year and have gone from 10 wins back to 8 as they continue to rebuild.

The Bulldogs have done "Jack Sh**".

They will finish 8th and a good chance to go out after their first final.

That doesn't amount to much if it happens.

They have ageing players who have kept the team together for a long time, ie West, Johnson, Grant, Smith etc

They also have 5 knee reco's on their list this year.  A good run with injuries will get you as close to a GF as you can. (I'm not saying the Doggies will, but it just makes such a huge difference)

If 2007 does pan out that way, one huge difference is that TW is unlikely to leave at the end of the season the way Northey did.

I really dont think a key defender is a priority.

Our midfield needs help.

One more midfielder that can in the guts and do a job for 10 minutes may a key.

Did someone say Ryley Dunn :D

Thats the place on the field that wew need to improve in.

Being 16th in clearances has killed us.

Cogs Newman Brown Harts are not the solution. We need a 22-26 yr old pig to put in the middle and get his own ball.

WHo are the options if any?

i don't want 2007 to = 1995, i want 2009/2010 to = 1967, 1969, 1973, 1794, 1980 :cupgold

Nah he was President. Joseph Banks was coach and also coach of the first All Terra Australis team. Interesting that Van Diemen's Land won the premiership the next year.

I can also say the side they beat had a fair few indigenous players!!

And didn't James Cook go on to play a long and distinguished career at Carlton and the Bulldogs.

I wont be expecting a finals appearance next year, our list still as a whole is still not good enough.

If the club gets fairdinkum with recruiting and delisting i believe 08 would be a much more workable expectation.

Yes, we have improved, and yes, we have to aim for finals.......but so will be 15 other teams.

All of them are in the same boat as us, and as we have seen with the Crows in the last 2 weeks, a whole season of hard work and dreams can be shattered with crucial injuries.

Not only have we got some long-term injury problems of our own that will filter through next season....we still don't know what draw we'll have, which will also have a huge bearing on how we'll go.

Yes, expect to make finals and aim for finals....but don't judge the club on whether we do make it or not.
A lot of water has to flow under the bridge for it to happen.
