Did anyone notice the crowd today between Carlton and Essendon?

Over the last three weeks, these teams have all played each other once at the G. The stats are interesting:

Richmond vs Carlton 54,815
Essendon vs Richmond 58,439
Carlton vs Essendon 32,976

Nobody is flying out of this group and Richmond were hardly raging favourites in any of the matches we played in. Doesn't take match for the Blue and Bomber fans to drop off does it? And it makes you wonder if they were to have experienced the prolonged lack of success that we have had, what condition would they be in now?

At the very least it's hard to understand how Carlton, Essendon and Collingwood are guaranteed two matches against each other each year and we're excluded. Still, one day we'll really show them all when the sleeping giant awakes...

Interesting .... if you extrapolate that out and assume only fans of the competing clubs went to each game and each clubs' fans made up the same number at its two games, Richmond supplied 40K, Essendon 18K and Carlton15K. Tiges' supplying more than double either of the other two, and more than the two of them combined.

Send those stats to the AFL & the RFC - we need all the bargaining power we can!

The Kangas have a bit to worry about, 16K or whatever to their game against the Crows and the Crows supporters nearly out numbered them!

And, was it Roos first game back in a while, because it looked as if he has not been off the park! He is unreal!

It is interesting that in the AFL members, some games are purely ticketed games, and others ( most ) are walk up with the option of pre booking if you wish.

I think the Carl Ess game was a ticketed game and both Rich games weren't.  I actually think this is good because a lot of people like the option of turning up on the day without the hassle of pre booking.

I have no problem with our games being all ticketed if for eg we have are in the top 4 and playing a Coll Ess or Carl in similar form ( hopefully we face this situation in a few years ).

Also I hate it when the public say Rich supporters are fickle.  I think we get good crowds on average considering how we have gone for the last 24 years.  The 1st sign of teams like Ess going bad, and their supporters are no where to be seen.

I'd say Mother's Day would have kept a few people away from the Carl v Ess game.

I'm much happier going to a game featuring the likes of JON, Lids, Bling, Cleve, Luke, Marco...than those names of the past (you know who they are, not going to bring them up again....). Will be great reminiscing in 5 years time that I saw JON, Marco etc make their debuts as skinny teenagers.....to see them now as elite players...

Interesting figure, But yes, RFC, Coll FC, CArl and Ess are the big 4, full stop. Its not about who is playing well any given week or year, its about more than 100 years of histroy.

Mothers day had a LOT to do with it IMO. It's a bad day to play football. We all saw out crap turnout for richos 200th last year when it was schedule during orthodox easter.

Not that I want to pooh pooh this reasoning, but hypothetically, it could have been because Carlton and Essendon fans went to the RFC games thinking they had a reasonable chance of a winning, then after they both lost, their respective fans died in the backside (which still shows them to be fair weather supporters, so I guess the theory is still good!!!). But it definately seemed to me that there were more Bummers than Tiges  fans the other week.

another point. we had 36,000 last saturday. more than what they got on sunday. we played against an interstate team, at a ground richmond fans don't like attending, in a game where we were huge underdogs... that surely cancels out the mothers day factor.

A decent turnout tomorrow, despite the unfortunate/unfavourable circumstances currently facing the team, will go a fair way towards proving/showing publically the quality of RFC support v other clubs.

Aware it's not our favoured venue but the side & youth, especially, deserve our support.

Good luck all.
