i have read recently that choco is reported to have said on an interview on sen in response to are we likely to top up in the draft as opposed to drafting youth. his relpy was along the lines that we owe richo and bowden some sucess.

i remember this sad excuse being trotted out some years ago in an attempt to explain our drafting of mature players. richmond does not owe our senior players anything. if they are so selfish as to want to jepodise our future and trade picks for mature players then maybe its time for them to move on.

i suspect that this is not as choco claims that this is being driven by the desire of some of our senior players to enjoy sucess. but an excuse by our coaching staff to gain some short term sucess to save their jobs next season.

in the last uncompromised draft for 5 years i hope we focus on youth for the first four rounds and only trade for other players in direct player swaps or through the preseason draft.

No i dont think we owe any player. Richo plays with his heart on his sleeve and busts his guts out on that field for our footy club because he loves the footy club. He could easily have been drafted to geelong (or another team who need a quality forward) a few years back and now been playing in arguably one of the most dominant teams we will ever see. but he didnt becaus he love the tigers like we all do. So i dont believe that even the players think we owe them anything.

Choco is a moron. plain and simple. cant help but stick his nose in other peoples business. everyone is intitled to their opinion and he does bring a bit of colour into the otherwise boring (from a viewers point of view) profession. But i think sometimes he needs to think before he talks

Yep. When TW first started as coach, he said we owed it to our senior players, Richo, Bowden, Johnson, Tivendale etc, not to bottom out go for a complete youth policy, but to go for immediate success to allow these boys to taste it as well. Worked out well so far I reckon....

I suggest you read that thread more closely, that is not what Royal said.

Means Choco royal our ass coach not Choco Williams

What success could topping up possibly bring for these loyal servants? Topping up may get us a finals berth, but it won't bring a flag. It may bring us a flogging in a final (or a win in an early final followed by a flogging in a later one). Is that termed success these days?

Topping up will not allow Richo, Bowden etc. to experience success, so it shouldn't even be a consideration.

Apparently we owe Ben Holland something.

Funny TB-H, I was wondering about this just the other day, what did end up happening on this front?

Professional footballers are hardly poverty stricken, least of all our 'senior players' who have made a very good living during their careers whilst delivering little in return. They are hardly 'owed' anything in my opinion. It is amazing however that we still being subjected to this crap four years down the track. One would have thought it would have been done and dusted by now - even if it's just empty rhetoric. Tragically belief in this approach coupled with Wallets bloated opinion of both his own coaching abilities and overrating of the list is why we have made such slow progress since.

Personally I agree, if we do top up, it will have less to do with rewarding anyone than saving Wallet and Royals skins. Anything less than a finals appearance next year then it's probably curtails for both of them. If we slip down the ladder then they are definitely gone. It's inconceivable that either would ever be offered another coaching position in senior football and the temptation to do a 'McHahon' must be overwhelming. Time is running out for both of them, hopefully however Craig Cameron won't be stood over by these two and have the balls to say no. The last two people that Richmond owe anything to are Wallet and Royal.

FFS how many times does it have to be said that Royal did not say what the OP thought he said.

Unless they havent been paid we owe them nothing....how about them owing us something...afterall.....dont we contribute to their wages?

You cant tell me that these guys would not have walked away if they were younger and were offered more money elsewhere.....realistically....you would have to say they would at elast consider it....afterall money talks.....
