PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Is it just me or do you too smell the distinct aroma of a rat around the AFL/Ben Cousins situation?

Cousins would walk into any side in the AFL - Hawthorn and Geelong included

He had 2 clubs chasing him - but for some unknown reason both have gone off him - the reason(s) have never been published.

This of course leads to speculation

1) Is Ben back on the drugs? - Doubt it very much

2) Did the club sponsors threaten the respective AFL Club Boards that they would not like Cousins associated with their name? - *smile* poor if so - I would bet if it were the sponsors sons or daughters who needed help in rehabilitation they would pull out all stops to see she/he gets the help needed.

3) Are the draconian drug testing processes Ben has to commit too believed to be too much for an AFL club to comply with? - The actual time of the processes is minimal - its the results that may mean an issue - if Ben did prove positive then it would really only be strike one against him under current AFL policy - remember he put his hand up - he was never caught.

3) HAS THE AFL DONE A BACKROOM DEAL/THREAT TO ALL 16 CLUBS CONCERNING BEN COUSINS PULLING ON ONE OF THEIR JUMPERS IN 2009 - This would not surprize me when you consider the poor press Demetriou has had from the AFL Drugs policy. If and I say IF this is so then it reaks of double standards as there are numerous AFL players on their 2nd strike who should be treated more severely if not as severely as Ben Cousins (remember Ben never got caught by the AFL Drug Testers).

I smell a rat and it is about the size of Demetriou

What Demetriou should be doing is encouraging the AFL clubs to take on Ben Cousins and thus saying to the rest of the world we chastised Cousins for his admitted drug taking (even though we never caught him at it) and NOW we are particpating in his rehabilitation to being not only an AFL player but also a member of our society.

Surely that would score far more political points than virtually banning him for the rest of his life which I suspect Demetriou is trying to do!
